According to an informal survey from Popeater, a widely read pop culture site, more than three-quarters of Bieber fans fell into two categories: under 17 and over 40. A full 21 percent were over 40.

What are some of these markers of beauty? And more importantly, why do we find them to be beautiful?

"All of these questions are linked to evolution," says Dr. Pamela Pallett, a researcher at Dartmouth University. "You want to have a healthy mate because that person likely has good genetics, and the faces we perceive as beautiful can signify good genetics."

So, to some degree, we are programmed to be more attracted to certain faces over others. Sexual dimorphism, a fancy term for sex-specific traits, is one of the major factors in determining what we find beautiful. The more feminine a woman's features are, the more attractive she's perceived to be.

Yesterday afternoon, Casey Anthony, the mother charged with murdering her two-year-old daughter, Caylee, was acquitted of all charges except lying to the police.

How did the millions of onlookers react? The Twitter-sphere flipped out, Kim Kardashian was "speechless," and comparisons to O.J. were everywhere. No one expected her to walk.

What went down in that jury room? Of course, no one knows, but we can't help noticing that Anthony is easy on the eyes and research suggests that "get out of jail free" cards are more plentiful for the pretty.
