    • Dig Out Your Scrunchies—They’re Back In Style!

APAPWhen I think of scrunchies, I remember that scene in "Sex and the City" where Carrie tries to convince Berger that the hair accessory is just so not a New York thing. It wasn't then, and it hasn't been for quite some time. But now Marc Jacobs has decided it's time for the massive hair tie to come back into fashion, and along with his blessing comes the new, more chic title of "hair furniture." No, it's not furniture made of hair (which I originally imagined and cringed), but rather the idea that your head should be dressed up with massive adornments. Personally, I'm all about the understated glamour when it comes to hair and really not ready to travel back to the '90s via neon scrunchies. Are you? [Guardian]

    • At Home Beauty Treatment Test Drive: Olive Oil Hair Mask

      istockphotoistockphoto

Ugh. Winter is upon us. Global warming might be melting the ice caps, but it sure hasn't made the northeastern United States any less crappy during the dark, cold month of November. Anyone else's hair feel dry as a bale of hay? Yeah, it's the pits. The dry air has been making my usually cute bob look terrible for weeks and I just couldn't take it anymore! So, last weekend, while my guy attended to a manly Korean barbecue expedition someplace, I ransacked the kitchen cupboards so I could test my very first at-home olive oil hair mask.

The how-to and results, after the jump!

      How to do it:

I found 407 recipes for "olive oil hair mask" on the internet, all with different ingredients. A girl could add drops of frankincense or honey to her conditioning mask, but I opted to just use olive oil by itself. I have short, chin-length hair, so I poured about a half a shot-glass worth of oil into a cereal bowl. I then wrapped a ratty old towel around my shoulders and headed to the

    • Can Perfume Help You Find True Love (Or Just Get Laid)?

A new study says wearing a fragrance certainly helps make you more attractive to the opposite sex, and, arguably, the most legendary perfume of all time may also be the most seductive. In fact, one in 10 women even claim they met the man of their dreams while wearing Chanel No. 5.

      Wait, really?

According to Superdrug, the company that carried out the poll, women reported that scents seemed to have a dramatic impact on their love lives.

      • "The average woman credits their choice of perfume for helping to secure approximately six different dates."
      • "A quarter of women say a man they don't know has asked them out after commenting on their perfume, and 82 percent think wearing perfume is essential when going out on a date."
      • "The survey also revealed that 57 percent of women are sure fragrances help them attract men when they're out on the town, and 22 percent have perfumes they only wear when they go out looking for a date."
      • "Six in ten women say a man has asked them

File this one under "We Can't Believe It Took Them This Long": Besides all those expensive bedazzled bras and Heidi Klum flaunting her post-baby body, there's one more reason to watch the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, airing on CBS tonight. Chinese model Liu Wen, 21, will be the first girl of Asian descent to float down the angels' catwalk.

"I was surprised when my agent told me. I asked my agent if she was joking. I didn't think an Asian girl would get this job."

Of course, the show's casting agents didn't exactly pluck her from obscurity. She was a Fashion Week favorite, and even proved she had mad runway skills by walking in Alexander McQueen's spring 2010 show, known for the insane toe-less platform shoes. So, you know, undies and wings should be a cinch. [ONTD]

    • Design Your Own Wardrobe With StyleShake

Have you ever wanted a custom-made dress, one that fits you like a glove, but thought you'd never be able to afford it? Well, the fashion gods have smiled down on you. The website StyleShake allows customers to create their own designs of dresses, tops, and skirts, and ten days after the time of purchase the one-of-a-kind garments arrive. You can even create bridesmaid dresses in that same amount of time. [Which should make for some interesting innovations in that field!-Editor] If the fit isn't right, StyleShake does free alterations. The available fabrics include silk, cotton, linen, and even eco-jersey. Those are my creations above, but I don't have any plans to quit my day job. (I did have fun playing around with the design tools and think it's a great way to pass the time when you're bored.) My only issue with StyleShake is that all the sleeves, necklines, and bottoms aren't available for every design. You can't pick, say, a sweetheart neckline unless you pick a specific type of

    • Fun With Family: Roman Polanski Ruined My Thanksgiving

      APAP

Well, sort of. The director was at the center of an argument between my brother and I that started almost as soon as we sat down for Thanksgiving dinner.

[For reference: Polanski was apprehended by Swiss authorities, after he fled the United States in 1977 before he could be sentenced for having "unlawful sex with a minor," a lesser charge than the original six, which Polanski pled guilty to. (He was originally charged with "rape by use of drugs, perversion, sodomy, lewd and lascivious act upon a child under 14, and furnishing a controlled substance to a minor.") Polanski fled the country before sentencing upon learning that the judge was planning on giving him jail time, despite the recommendations of a probation report and psychiatric evaluation, which both indicated that Polanski should be released on time served. For the record, Polanski served only 42 days out of the initial 90 before being released and making a break for his native France.]

      I just assumed my brother

    • Would You Wear A Black Wedding Dress?

The Daily Mail is reporting today that black, a color traditionally saved for funerals and looking street chic, is the new color choice for wedding dresses among modern brides. While I don't doubt that many women are bucking tradition and going with darker colors, I have a hard time believing that black, despite how slimming and elegant it is, is now the "shade of choice," as the paper insinuates. Then again, they did quote an "expert" from a wedding website that gets all of 2,000 visitorsa month (for perspective, The Frisky gets about that many visitors every 25 minutes), so maybe there's some validity to the claim. The trend is in response to the recession (of course!) and brides' desire to buy a dress they can wear more than once. I don't buy it for a second, do you? Would you buy a black gown for that reason? Would you really wear your dress again after your wedding? Doesn't that kind of make it seem less special? [via Daily Mail]

    • Girl Talk: I Got Botox ... And It Didn’t Work!

      iStockphotoiStockphoto

A few years ago, I got Botox. A little here. A little there. The needle goes in. You want to scream. And a few days later, voilà! That part of your face is paralyzed. Over a couple years, I did it maybe eight times. Then I stopped. I'd had enough of injecting poison into my face. But a couple years after that, I wanted to do it again. I ponied up a few hundred dollars, lay down on the table, and got another round of botulinum toxin injected into my visage. But the unthinkable happened. It didn't work!

To be clear, I didn't get my Botox administered by some random person in a strip mall with a big Botox sign hanging out front. I went to a plastic surgeon, someone who, I figured, has a better understanding of how the face "works," and can, therefore, do a better job of administering the toxic cocktail in the proper places. I went to a pint-sized, Russian-born plastic surgeon with awards hanging on her waiting room walls. Two weeks after my visit, though, I saw no change. So, I
