    • How Often Do You Buy New Jeans? And How Long Until You Chuck Them?

      iStockphotoiStockphoto

It goes without saying-the one item in your closet that's older than the latest "High School Musical" star? Probably your favorite pair of jeans. A new survey from the Lakeside Shopping Centre in Essex, England finds that Brits hang on to their jeans longer than any other piece of clothing, and that nearly two million people have pairs they bought as much as 40 years ago.

      Hole-y jeans!

Denim probably makes up the majority of our wardrobes. According to Cotton Inc., " ... the average [American] woman owns 8 pairs of jeans." [Um, try more like a dozen.-Editor] Of course, nestled in that pile of denim are a handful of pairs we haven't worn in years, but still hang on to for "good" reasons: they're slightly out of style but will come back, or they will fit after I lose three pounds, OK?!

It would seem a survey like Lakeside's is supposed to make us reevaluate our consumption habits, and let go of old waste ... but is it really so bad to hang on to things? What's your rule

    • When Do You Put The Most Faith In Beauty Products?

So for the first time in about three years I made a trip to the derm-with my wedding coming up next year, I figured I shouldn't really procrastinate. (Visions of adult acne and a white dress dance in my head!) At the end of the appointment, I walked out with two prescriptions-one face lotion and an eye cream for the fine lines (that are turning into not-so-fine lines)-and one giant smile on my face about my new skincare regimen. I happily raced home to fill my Rx topical lotions and immediately started patting my new eye cream on those pesky fine lines and wondered: This isn't my first time at the eye cream rodeo-why am so damn hyped up about this particular eye gunk?

I've bought, almost bought and asked for dozens of eye cream recommendations, as well as read loads of eye care articles over the years in the hopes of finding something that would help on the wrinkle and baggage front-and my receipts have read anything from $10 to $300 (please don't judge!). The cream the derm

Kelly Osbourne has a bone to pick with some ladies' style. The "Dancing With The Stars" contestant was reportedly overheard saying at Teen Vogue's Young Hollywood party, "that she was 'shocked' at how short the skirts of female partygoers were since they were all so young." We're not sure when Miss Osbourne became such a prude, but obviously short skirts make her peeved. [NY Post]

Jealousy? Perhaps. But maybe just a natural reaction. How many times do you walk down the street, check out another woman's outfit and think, Why? Whyyyy? Why, oh lord in heaven, would you ever wear that? What fashion choices piss you off? A few from us, after the jump.

      • Fake designer bags
      • Thongs hanging out
      • Jersey-girl-cliché Juicy track suits
      • Tights as pants
      • Platform flip-flops
      • Visible panty lines
      • Anything that is too tight-too tight is not a fit
      • Baby tees
      • French manicures
      • Gross sneakers with an otherwise nice outfit

And now to you ... by all means,

    • An American Girl Doll That’s Homeless!?

Homelessness is er, having a "moment." There are windows at Barneys embracing the sad, unfortunate reality and W magazine gave Sasha Pivovarova designer bags to pose with as she channeled a homeless woman. It's one thing to have fashion and editorials take inspiration from homelessness. We're certainly not saying it's right, but in the time of a recession, life on the street is certainly many people's reality. But it's quite another for a toy brand to create a doll who has a deadbeat father and homeless mother.

Yes, that's right. Mattel has created an American Girl doll named Gwen Thompson who, according to the book written about her, lives in a car with her family, because they are homeless. Her father walked out on the family, leaving her mother alone to raise Gwen.

Aren't dolls supposed to allow little girls to enter the world of fantasy and to indulge their imaginations? Do you really want your child knowing about deadbeat dads and homelessness? When I was young, my

    • How Often Do You Wash Your Hair?

iStockphotoiStockphotoThis weekend a friend told me that she washes her hair almost every single day, and I was kind of stunned. I started making the calculations: If you wash and condition everyday, that's around 10 extra minutes per day spent in the shower. Plus, if you blow it dry, let's tack another 30 minutes on to that and we're talking almost five hours per week spent on fussing with your hair. (This is a frugal estimate too, since I'm not really factoring in the kind of days where you bust out a complicated hairstyle that involves braids, a perfectly polished blowout or a fancy updo.) Of course, if you have thick monster hair like me, maybe you can get away with less shampooing-and most stylists warn that overwashing is ultimately bad for your scalp and hair since you need to let those natural oils do their job. Then again, if you have fine or thin hair like my friend does, the grease factor can get really unattractive really fast. I prescribed her a regimen of cutting down to four times a week

    • 10 Reasons Not Have Kids Yet ... Or Ever

Cameron Diaz thinks your kids are bad for the environment.

Well, no, not really. But she told Cosmopolitan she thinks women shouldn't be pressured into procreating or "shunned" for not having kids because "honestly, we don't need anymore kids. We have plenty of people on this planet already."

The Frisky: How Soon Is Too Soon To Talk About Kids?

While we agree with Cameron that it's b.s. women still get hassled for not raising rugrats, we can think of far better reasons than old Mother Nature for staying childless.

      1. If you were up last night at 3 a.m., it's your own damn fault.
      2. Nothing in your closet has someone else's barf on it. Or someone else's poop.
      3. You don't want to keep a spare, clean diaper or a baggie of Cheerios in your purse.
      4. You still want to wear a push-up bra-not a nursing bra.
      5. You can't have that second mojito if you're breast feeding.
      6. It's probably a health hazard to carry around a 10lb baby in four-inch heels.
      7. You want to

    • French Women Don’t Get Fat! Politicians In France Propose Airbrush Warnings

iStockphotoiStockphotoYou believed French women looked gorgeous naturally, didn't you? Quel suprise! Airbrushing is causing unrealistic body images and encouraging eating disorders, said a French politician on Monday as she proposed warning labels on digitally enhanced images. Parlimentarian Valerie Boyer and 50 other French politicians want a "health warning" on airbrushed pics. All enhanced photos would be accompanied by this line: "Photograph retouched to modify the physical appearance of a person." Under the proposal in France, a company that didn't include the warning on their retouched ads would be slapped with a trés mal fine of a $54,930, or up to 50 percent the cost of the advertisement. The French proposal comes on the heels of a suggestion by British pols for warning labels of their own. But what we want to know is how long until such a proposal comes to the States, where we just love our Photoshop? (And can you imagine what Anna Wintour would have to say about it?) • When Is It OK To Go Braless?

iStockphotoiStockphotoNow here's a dilemma I've never had to worry about since l was 12 and grew size-C boobs one night in the middle of 7th grade: to wear a bra or not to wear a bra? See, even after breast reduction surgery when I was 19, I still can't fathom actually going braless out in public. I rarely even feel comfortable enough to free-ball it the privacy of my own home (my boobs at 33 simply aren't what - or where - they were 10 years ago). That isn't to say I'm not a little jealous of women who don't have to wear a bra. When I read that quote from Christina Applegate about the, uh, perk of going braless since getting implants after her double mastectomy for breast cancer, I thought, Well, at least there's one upside! But then, I still have to wonder, just because a woman feels she can go braless, does that mean it's appropriate?

This question comes after reading an article in today's Daily Mail about a photo of a braless Kate Moss looking very much like a 35-year-old, post-breastfeeding woman who

    • Have You Heard Of The “Hollywood”?

      iStockphotoiStockphoto

I was reading Daily Mail columnist Liz Jones' latest crazy rant (today the subject is unwanted body hair) and it was just as bats**t and entertaining as usual, until I came across the following description in regards to a cousin of the Brazilian bikini wax:

"Then there is its more extreme stablemate the Hollywood, which takes away everything, leaving the bearer distastefully childlike. My waxing specialist in London now does 'seven or eight Hollywoods a day' - a 70 per cent increase on this time last year. Completely Bare, the American chain of spas dedicated to hair removal, has seen requests for a Hollywood quadruple in the past 12 months."

How did I miss out on this terminology? Was I absent that day during beauty school? Now don't get me wrong. I understand that some women are going completely bald down there, but I had no idea just how many of them were and that it was even called that. And I've even visited Completely Bare, the spa Jones is referring to (though

    • Has She Lost Her Mind? Post-Makeover, Kate Gosselin Returns To The Reverse Mullet

ABC/Splash NewsABC/Splash NewsSorry to interrupt Fashion Week coverage, but we have a very important announcement to make regarding new developments in the highly controversial ongoing Kate Gosselin hair saga.

So, like, you know when you've given a friend some much-needed advice-you take the time to hear out all of her venting and pat her head during the shoulder crying and thoughtfully consider the best course to take and dispense pearls accordingly-and then they go ahead and do the opposite after all that? The masses have reached out to her in unison: Whether you're Team Kate or not I think we can all agree that hers is the scariest haircut we've seen on any famous person since, god, I can't even think of another example, so that's really saying something. Despite the (favorable) uproar caused by her much prettier People magazine cover and mere days after she made a much blogged-about appearance on "The View" with a new 'do that the ladies endorsed and even Gosselin herself acknowledged was cute, what does she
