    • Like Father, like Daughter: How to Co-Opt Dad's Style

      by Chioma Nnadi, Vogue

Stealing from your mother's closet? Of course. But what about all the ways in which dear old Dad has impacted your sense of taste, from the books you read to the clothes you wear? In honor of the enduring influence of fathers (and father figures) everywhere, here are ten ways to co-opt his style-while making it entirely your own.

This year, for those who dread the shopping itself, we've made things easier, wading through all that's out there to bring you the very best of the best. There's a little bit of everything for everyone-sleek one-pieces, surf-inspired printed patterns, gold offerings, and (good news for those who have no problem baring a lot), the string bikini is officially back in business. So, go ahead-take the plunge.

    • The Best-Dressed Female Villains

      by Emily Stewart, Vogue

A classic fairy tale gets an elaborate revamp with a wardrobe to match when Charlize Theron stars as the evil queen Ravenna opposite Kristen Stewart in Snow White and the Huntsman. A foil to both Disney's cheerier adaptation and Mirror Mirror's whimsical treatment of the Brothers Grimm story earlier this year, Huntsman is decidedly darker, more haunting, and visually intricate. To amplify Theron's wicked aura, costume designer and Academy Award winner Colleen Atwood constructed a series of severe looks, excruciatingly detailed, and handmade from mainstream materials like silk, leather, and mesh. Dresses, robes, and headpieces often contained the offbeat and bizarre-rooster feathers, Thai beetle wings-making the Queen as well-heeled as she is ruthless. On the occasion of the film's release, we compiled a list of some of our other favorite best-dressed fantastical female villains.

    • A Long Look at Shorts: How to Dress Up a Summer Staple

How short is too short? Lily Kwong has a rule of thumb she's been applying to her wardrobe since high school: "If your shorts fall short of your hands when your arms are hanging by your side," she says, "then it's a no-go." But if the spring collections are anything to go by, then the answer isn't necessarily at her fingertips. At Balenciaga, Proenza Schouler, and Prabal Gurung, the case for less-is-more was particularly convincing, primarily because the look came in two ultra-chic moving parts. Enter the shorts suit, the playful alternative to an office mainstay.

"There's something fun and youthful about a shorts suit, but it's still very pulled together," says Vogue's Elizabeth Gilpin. The fashion assistant recently invested in an all-white Carven shorts suit and hasn't looked back since. According to her, the trick to pulling off the elegant barely there look is in finding the right silhouette and the right shoe-in this

    • This Summer, It’s All About an Oversize Shirt

by Sarah Mower, VoguePhoto courtesy of CélinePhoto courtesy of Céline

We've heard about shorts. We've wondered about crop-tops. But isn't it time we take note of the fact that the big shirt has suddenly shot up in the 2012 hierarchy of day-to-day spring chic? Put it this way: Only a couple of years ago, the very suggestion of wearing an oversize, long-sleeved shirt, worn untucked, with tails flying, would have made most fashion-conscious women flinch. Now, though, thanks to a subtle switch in perception, we find ourselves of the opinion that upper-body coverage-buttoned-up necks, long sleeves, and an elongated, waist-de-emphasizing volume-are 100 percent desirable. And lo, this job description is ideally filled by the big shirt. Thanks to Céline, Rag & Bone, DKNY, Givenchy, J.Crew, and a slew of young designers, the overscale shirt is now in full active service on many fashion fronts.

Which Side Are You On?

by VoguePhotographed by Craig McDean, Vogue, June 2012Photographed by Craig McDean, Vogue, June 2012

Amongst the swarm of stiletto-wearing editors, buyers, and models on the streets of Paris, New York, London, and Milan this season, a new breed of fashion creature has emerged: the sneaker freak. You'll have seen her superluxe kicks captured on street-style blogs-studded Louboutin high-tops, snakeskin Lanvin plimsolls, and perhaps most ubiquitous of all, the Isabel Marant Betty, a shoe that comes with a built-in wedge. That fabulous take on athleticism isn't for everyone, however, and these days sneaker purists who favor bona-fide sports shoes by the likes of Nike and Adidas are taking a stand. With those distinct and opposing value systems in mind, Vogue asked two sneakerheads from opposite sides of the fence to make their case: Which camp are you in?

    • The Rooney Mara Effect Hits Vogue

      , Vogue

Rooney Mania-a yen for skin the color of cream, and shiny, ink-black hair, preferably worn with short cropped bangs and a healthy dose of attitude-swept over the fall collections, with lookalikes popping up everywhere from Calvin Klein Collection and Antonio Berardi to Versace and Marni. The Oscars hit in the midst of the Milan collections, with Mara fanning the flames on the red carpet in white Givenchy Couture. Like the rest of the world, I had been enamored with the actress who played Stieg Larsson's menacingly alluring heroine-specifically, her hair. In the mood for change-I've worn the same shoulder-scraping cut for years-I decided to take a chance and really go for it. And when I say go for it, I mean with Danilo, the legendary hairstylist, and creator of Rooney's cut-on, and off-screen.

    • High-End Healing: The New Health Kicks of the Season

      By Chioma Nnadi, Vogue

Besides the incessant snapping of camera shutters, the one noise you're likely to hear in the front row of New York Fashion Week is the faint sound of editors sniffling into their handkerchiefs. Commonly known as the fashion flu, it's a virus that spreads like wildfire across the crowded rooms of shows, cocktail parties, and after-hours fashion fetes. Most health-conscious attendees will tell you they have a remedy stashed in their handbag at all times; a secret elixir, hangover cure, or herbal supplement they swear is the one thing that keeps them standing through the grueling monthlong round of shows. A bit like the passing trends on the runway, there is always a new miracle cure to obsess over. Whether you believe in their energy-boosting effects or just like the sweet taste of a placebo, here are five new things that fashion folk will be counting on to keep them healthy this season.
