    • Vogue Editors Predict What Annette Bening Will Wear to the Oscars

There are regular office Oscar pools, and then there is the Vogue-office Oscar pool. With the Academy Awards less than a month away, we asked five Vogue editors to weigh in on what each Best Actress nominee should wear on the big night, choosing, of course, from the splendid array of looks that came

    • Vogue Says: Wear White!

      By Esther Adams, Vogue magazine

Anyone who watched the President's State of the Union Address last Tuesday evening would have been hard-pressed not to notice the First Lady's gleaming silvery-white sheath. With three-quarter-length sleeves and a body-skimming silhouette, Michelle Obama's Rachel Roy ensemble boldly stated that-blizzard or not-spring's lightening, bright whites can, and should, be embraced right now.

We may not be ready to slip on Dolce & Gabbana's short lace dresses just yet, but there are already weather-appropriate options on offer. Before heading into the sartorial snowstorm, consider these tips from designers: "Stick to ivory or winter white in cooler temperatures," advises Calvin Klein Collection's Francisco Costa, who showed a largely white, monochromatic collection for spring. "It's a neutral color, so it's hard to overdo it, even with layering," he says. And the Row's Mary-Kate Olsen agrees: "It's so versatile," she enthuses, "you can wear it with almost any

    • André Leon Talley on the SAG Awards' Red Carpet

By André Leon Talley, Vogue magazine

What a refreshing bounce the SAG Awards were. With the civility so lacking at the Golden Globes, the evening seemed to soar along, most notably on a crest of strong fashion moments. First on the red carpet and best dressed of the night was fourteen-year-old Hailee Steinfeld (True Grit), spectacular in blazing Pop Art Prada stripes. What made it so right for the teenager was the just-out-of-bed tousled hair (the style of the evening) looking so natural on her, deft makeup, and no bling.

She didn't try too hard, unlike Cara Buono (Mad Men) in a J. Mendel swag of a dress that looked like she had taken a cue from Scarlett O'Hara and made a dress out of velvet curtains. Jenna Fischer (The Office), in a gray spangled Fendi dress and a casual, sideswept ponytail, stood out by not trying to be outstanding. Modern women, take note of that easy shape for an important evening. I loved Jennifer Lawrence in Winter's Bone, and her bright pink chiffon dress by

      By Lynn Yaeger, Vogue magazine

Is the most depressing day of the year January 17 or January 24? • How to Finance Your Spring Wardrobe? Sell Your Clothes Online

      By Esther Adams, Vogue magazine

Despite spring's alluring new silhouettes swinging full-price from store racks (in an unnerving way that makes the rest of our closets look positively outdated), holiday debt usually renders January a shopping-free zone. But it doesn't have to be. Why not sell your unwanted threads and let yesterday's wardrobe pick up the tab for the new?

"I do a pre-season closet purge twice a year," says Fenton/Fallon jewelry designer Dana Lorenz. The experienced eBay seller found the perfect solution to keeping up with the cyclical nature of fashion six years ago, when she started funding her seasonal shopping splurges by auctioning off older pieces. "My Gucci sandals went for $600," she says, "and a portion of my Fendi baguette collection for between $200 and $500."

It's a simple, profitable sartorial practice-one in which model Hanneli Mustaparta is a firm believer. "It's my New Year's resolution to sell on eBay, but I need a model

Photo: Jason Merritt/Getty Images (Jolie, Hathaway); Frazer Harrison/Getty Images.Photo: Jason Merritt/Getty Images (Jolie, Hathaway); Frazer Harrison/Getty Images."Is it a flash? Is it a flash?" Those are the words Mae West asks her maids in I'm No Angel. She is asking if her imported embroidered gown, just delivered, will make an impact. That's what counts at the Golden Globes.

If it takes days of prep and three to four hours of makeup, better make sure your dress has fireworks-great fabric, elegant lines, or wow detail. Someone should have told Helena Bonham Carter, nominated for her brilliant portrayal of a royal wife in The King's Speech, to nix the idea of one green shoe and one pink shoe. Her Vivienne Westwood lamé and a haze of tulle and point d'esprit and James Dean-style sunglasses, was the evening's train wreck.

"Keep the rest of your clothing simple," advises Vogue Fashion News Editor Emily Holt of these easily overpowering details. "Do that, and this is a great way to have fun with dressing up." Vogue Senior Accessories Editor Filipa Fino agrees. "This is not the time for matching jewelry," she insists. "Huge earrings should stand alone."
