i have a small obsession for plates. i have found my self over the last few years purchasing 1 off plates and not knowing what to do with them. in my first new york apartment my roommate, patrick, and i opted to use the plates as wall decoration. it don't love what we did but I think it is a good example of a quick and unique decoration.

last weekend I was walking around the city and say this plate display in a window and thought it more captured what I was looking for.

      i also
made a trip out to california this week and stayed at the viceroy hotel in santa monica . each time I stay at this hotel i am charmed by the design. and of course I love their plate display in their outdoor patio.

a great place to look for one-off
unique plates is your local thrift store or urban outfitters. urban outfitters always seems to have some quirky choices. here is my current urban outfitters favorite.

    • something blue II

this week's something blue is quite the splurge . i just love this blue shirt from anthropologie. It is called the mountain fold shell. I think it is so fun! The model they used paired it with a yellow skirt and yellow necklace, which is great for summer.

I think it would also look super cute with good pair of jeans and these fun earrings from the passionflowers etsy shop. They are only $9 and can be found here: passionsflowershop

Purchase the shirt from anthropologie for $118 (think tax rebate :) ).

    • wall decals on a saturday

i'm already looking forward to moving into a new apartment just so i can purchase these creative wall decals and decorate my walls.

i think this is such a great idea . whether you are decorating for a kid's room , a kitchen or the living room, there are some really fun options at blik http://www.whatisblik.com/ .

here is my favorite for the living room:

it is incredibly reasonable for 8 decals it is $60. Just think how much wall papering and painting costs. I really like this one for the living room or a bedroom and they come in many colors . the chandelier is available in black, white and burgundy. The cost for 3 chandelier decals is only $30.

      Check out this
whimsical decal. I think this would be great in a kids room. It is $40.

      Which are your favorites?

    • branches and antlers oh my

there is definitely a trend of using branches & antlers as decoration these days. from wall hooks to centerpieces and even jewelry stands. i think i really like the idea. it used to be that branches - aka wood/twigs - gave a rustic feel but lately i have been seeing them in more feminine styles.

what do you think of these from urban outfitters?

here is a tablescape that i took a picture of from west elm. I thought it was really interesting. not my style but could be yours!

I love this jewelry stand from urban outfitters - thinking of buying a few for all of that wild jewelry I have.

    • fabric and frames

finding pictures to hang on the wall when you are decorating a room can be an expensive process. thinking about what to hang on the walls is a big task. pictures can often be incredibly expensive...even from some of the "cheap" stores. when i moved into our new apartment i decided to explore some fabrics to hang .

i checked the local fabric store (
lucky for me i am in new york and the local store is mood fabric of project runway fame ). i purchased this great fabric (which i later found out was oscar de la renta- i got a steal). i then purchased a frame from the local art store and decided to hang it.

i also bought this fabric from ikea...it was in the throw away bin and i paid $1 ...it now sits perfectly in my living room...above the couch my grandmother kindly donated.

getting these "pictures" at such a
great price makes me want to switch them out every year for fun...check back next year to see what takes the places ;)

    • clever commercials

there is something about commercials these days that makes me in a good mood. they are choosing to use music that is both insiprational and innovative .

      *joe purdy ~ kia commercial
"i just can't seem to get right today, i just can't seem to get right today. i guess i'm going to give up" listen here: www.myspace.com/joepurdy

*ingrid michaelson ~ old navy commerical
"if you were falling then I would catch you. you need a light i'd find a match. cause i love the way you say good morning. and you take me the way i am" listen here: http://www.ingridmichaelson.com/

*yael niam ~ mac air commerical
"i'm a new soul, i came into this strange world hoping i could learn a bit about how to give and take. since i came here felt the joy and the fear finding myself making every possible mistake" listen here: www.myspace.com/yaelnaim

    • pillows and buttons

i have always loved buttons . when i was a little girl my mom used to keep a jar of mismatched buttons and i always loved looking at them. i found these adorable pillows at west elm and thought they were too adorable to not share.

i didn't catch the exact price for these but i
believe they are somewhere between $29-$34 each at west elm.

i also found these pillows at west elm and thought they were a little over the top but could be great for some little throw pillows to add some spark to your room.
