      Dashboard dining, TV dinners, movie munching - let's face it, we are becoming a society of mindless eaters which can wreak havoc on our waistlines. The good news is that you can build simple eating behavior strategies into your lifestyle that can help you easily eat 20% without even noticing the loss (except on the scale that is.)

      Remember, too much healthy food is still unhealthy. Calories do count, of course where they come from counts most so while I am telling you to shrink your plate and slow it down, I am always going to emphasize loading up with non starchy veggies.

      Strategy #1: Learn from the French Women: stop eating when you are no longer hungry RATHER than continuing to eat until you are full. And since it takes 20 minutes or more for us to register being full anyway it is easy to overeat if we are racing through our meals.

    • A Rise in Teenage Boys Using Condoms: CDC reports

      (c) Shutterstock(c) ShutterstockA higher proportion than ever of teenage guys are using a condom the first time they have sex, according to a new Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) report. Highlights include:

      • Eight in 10 teenage males studied during 2006-2010 used a condom during their first sexual encounter - a 9 percentage point increase from 2002 numbers.
      • 16 percent of teen males used a condom in addition to their female partner's hormonal contraception - a 6 percentage point increase from 2002.
      • Boys may be being more responsible than girls on this front: Teenage boys were found to be more likely than teenage girls to have used some type of contraception the first time they had sex.
      • 78 percent of girls ages 15 to 19 said they used some sort of contraception the first time, compared with 85 percent of boys in that age group.

      Listeria has come into our lives. The serious infection usually caused by eating food contaminated with the bacterium Listeria monocytogenes is to blame for the deaths of at least 23 people across 10 states, and sickened 116 people in 25 states -- making this case the deadliest foodborne illness outbreak in the United States in more than a quarter century.

      Here is what you need to know about Listeriosis:

      Cantaloupes from Jensen Farms in Holly, CO, was linked to the outbreak, but the fruits from that farm should be off store shelves by now. How to safely consume a melon.

      Health officials warn that the death toll may still rise, since symptoms can take up to two months to appear.

      Five people each have died in New Mexico and Colorado from eating the tainted fruit, along with two people each in Kansas, Texas and now Louisiana. One has died in Indiana, Maryland, Missouri, Nebraska, New York, Oklahoma and Wyoming. One pregnant woman had a miscarriage due to the illness.
