As we learned years ago (possibly from watching MTV) every rose has its thorn. But when it comes to beauty products and treatments that could harm you or your baby, nothing's worth the sting. So here are three beauty treatments you're better off avoiding if you're a smart mama-to-be:
Retinoids (AKA Differin, Retin-A, Renova, Retinoic acid, Retinol, Retinyl linoleate, Retinyl palmitate, Tazorac and avage)
Found in: Prescription acne products, face creams, makeup for acne-prone skin.
What it is: Retinoids are derived from Vitamin A, which isn't safe in high doses for developing babes. And while applying it to the skin hasn't proven harmful during pregnancy like the oral version (like Accutane) has, doctors recommend avoiding it.
Safe alternative: There are many organic and all-natural alternatives that skip harmful chemicals in favor of natural solutions that really can help eliminate zits. One of my favorites is Shea Terra Anti-Acne
