    • Seven Days of Purple Lipstick: Part 1

As previously mentioned on this blog (and every other beauty publication, be it digital or print) a strong, purple lip is a must-try for fall. Shades of deep eggplant and blackberry wowed at shows like Peter Som, Antonio Berardi, and Missoni back in February, causing a host of cosmetics companies to add the dramatic hue to their seasonal color offerings. There are so many bullets to sort through, in fact, I thought I'd take the liberty of test-driving seven choice selections during fashion week-a new lipstick every day-to help you better choose your perfect pigment and maybe even be crowned "that dark-haired girl with the purple lipstick" by next Friday (fingers crossed!). Here, part one of the great purple-lip experiment of 2010.

The Lipstick: Illamasqua Lipstick in Growl

The Application: While this color looks like a blackened aubergine in its tube, it actually applies with a slight burgundy tint. That being said, it's incredibly dark, so a liner is a must. I like MAC's

    • Happy 140th Birthday Vaseline!

Happy birthday, Vaseline! The trusty petroleum jelly we've come to love is celebrating its 140th birthday this year. Way back in 1870, a young chemist from Brooklyn noticed how oil workers would smear their skin with the residue from their drills to speed the healing of cuts and burns. He quickly realized the massive potential of this wonderfully gooey skin healer, and took it mainstream. Now that quirky wonder is an American classic, stocked in bathrooms everywhere and sold at a rate of one jar a minute, to be exact. To mark the anniversary, Vaseline is introducing a new Rich Conditioning Cocoa Butter variety. This jelly contains the same base mixture of mineral oils, paraffin, and microcrystalline waxes as the original, but it's also topped off with nourishing cocoa butter to seal in extra moisture and provide a non-sticky glow. Like all Vaseline creations, it serves about a hundred different skin purposes. We prefer to rub it on after shaving to soften our legs and to dab it on

    • Labor Day Weekend Recipes To Remedy A Sunburn

With a West Coast-based practice, dermatologist Dr. Peter Kopelson has encountered plenty of sunburn situations over the course of his career. And while those with burns of the more severe variety should head directly to their doctor, a number of solutions can be found far closer to home to remedy too many hours spent soaking up the last rays of sun on Labor Day. Here, Dr. Kopelson shares his favorite everyday ingredients for sunburn soothing should you overdo it at the Rockaways this weekend.

      Potatoes

"Grate potatoes and apply directly to the burn. Retain the juice from the potatoes, which should be included with the actual gratings."

      Milk

"Soak towels or gauze in cold milk and apply directly to burned areas."

      Yogurt

"Apply a thick layer of plain yogurt to the sunburned area."

      Tea

"Make a very strong pot of regular black tea [like Earl Grey]. Refrigerate the tea until it's completely cold. Dip washcloth or gauze into the cold tea and apply as

AHAVA has been making mineral magic since the late eighties, when it first tapped into the transformative, healing powers of the Dead Sea for its famed skincare range. Countless best-selling mud- and salt-rich creams, masks, body moisturizers, and SPF lotions have followed since its debut, making the soothing, reparative brand a favorite of the sensitive-skinned masses. • Cyndi Lauper And Lady Gaga Gloss It Up

If you thought you were psyched about Lady Gaga and Cyndi Lauper's Viva Glam Lipsticks for MAC Cosmetics, get a load of their new Lipglass offerings! Like their bullet-encased predecessors, the shine enhancers come in opaque pink (Gaga) and opaque coral (Cyndi), and a portion of proceeds from their sale benefits the MAC AIDS fund. Also available for your credit card-swiping pleasure are some adorable lip-shaped wristlets with enough space for both a gloss and a lipstick should you want to double up your coverage-or combine the colors; a Cyndi-Gaga music mash-up still eludes pop radio, but the makeup version is a layered application away.

    • Will You Wear White After Labor Day?

Once, only the brave wore white after the first weekend in September (and by brave we mean French and/or those in possession of a generous dry-cleaning budget). But that old edict hasn't really applied for a while, and judging by Fall collections from the likes of Thakoon Panichgul and Gucci's Frida Giannini, a pair of white pants is now a winter wardrobe essential. According to Jill Stuart, though, the shade's prominence has less to do with breaking rules than harmonizing palettes. "Loden green and camel are big this season, and white freshens those darker shades up," she pointed out to us. "A creamy color makes everything brighter." That was certainly the case at Reed Krakoff, where full, ivory trousers were paired with a swaggering navy coat and charcoal sweater. And, of course, white jeans, like the cropped ones we're coveting from Isabel Marant, can freshen up any outfit. Just remember to factor your cleaning bills into the purchase price.

Check out the slideshow, and let

    • The Rumor Of The Morning: Lanvin For H&M?!

Usually, we don't credit fashion-world rumors until they're confirmed-in the age of online, it's just too easy for any @Tom, @Dick, or @Harry to make them up as they go along. But H&M is clearly courting mystery with its new designer collaboration: Yesterday, the brand released a video teaser on its Web site, daring users to figure out its new collaborator. Facebook responses ran the gamut, but insiders think they've hit on the answer-Lanvin's Alber Elbaz (that's him peeking in at right). If so, it would be a major coup for the fast fashion retailer, and a chance for Lanvin to build on the success of its collection with Acne (which, admittedly, was sold at a contemporary, rather than fast-fashion, price point). Too good to be true? Just maybe. Only a few months ago, Elbaz told Style.com that he hadn't considered a fast-fashion collaboration. But we'll keep hoping until proven otherwise.

    • Our Top Five Emmy Beauty Moments: The Good, The Bad, And The Ill-Advised

There were definitely a few award recipients on last night's 62nd annual Primetime Emmy Awards broadcast that we've never seen or heard of before. Archie Panjabi, we're talking about you. But you'll be pleased to know that facial recognition issues didn't stop us from sizing up the beauty happenings on the red carpet. The sea of one-shouldered gowns mentioned in our event coverage? We saw right through it, instead honing in on the hair, the makeup, the nail polish, and the self-tanner. Here, our top five beauty moments-both good and not so much.

Check out Style.com's rundown of the red carpet looks from the Emmy Awards

      1. Black Is Back

Anna Paquin's bold-shouldered McQueen number got all the attention. But prolonged staring revealed something else, namely an expert black nail polish job. The obsidian shade and its almost-black jewel-toned counterparts were everywhere last night, adorning the fingertips of January Jones, Lea Michele, and Jayma Mays, to name but a few.

    • Marchesa’s Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig on Their New Makeup Line

We told you it was coming; now, the wait will soon be over. After teaming up with Le Métier de Beauté for their Fall show back in February, Marchesa designers Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig are debuting a limited-edition makeup collection for the brand that will hit shelves in September. The collaboration, which fuses LMDB's heralded textures and colors with Marchesa's knack for classic glamour, features four dual-ended lip glosses, two Sheer Illumination highlighting pens, and two multipurpose palettes-the cornerstone of the range-which were created with Craig and Chapman's respective styles in mind. Craig's Le Soleil includes a cheek/lip/eye and face color for a bronzed goddess look, while Chapman's La Lune features a translucent powder, concealer, berry-tinged lip gloss, peachy cream blush, and an onyx shadow to properly build her signature smoky eye. The silver packaging is also a talking point, having been directly inspired by Sandra Bullock's silver bugle Marchesa gown from

    • 11 Anti-Inflammatories For After-Sun Relief

I have sensitive skin. If an aesthetician is just the slightest bit too overzealous with her extractions, I am left with marks for a week. There's also a laundry list of products that, no matter how gentle they claim to be, will make my skin erupt. So needless to say, my ability to recuperate from things like prolonged sun exposure and abrasive facial treatments is…slow. Does that stop me from indulging in both? Nope (vitamin D absorption and quality exfoliation were crucial to my summer). I do have some secret, anti-inflammatory weapons to help repair damage and calm all means of trauma to my complexion, though, and I've assembled them here to share the wealth. Should your skin have an "episode" anytime soon, you're welcome.
