The say-anything funnyman is back again to host the Golden Globes, and he dropped by to tell Ellen how he's preparing for the big night!

Ricky Gervais is getting ready to host the Golden Globes for the third time -- despite saying he'd never take that stage again.

"What made you change your mind?" asked Ellen in an episode airing Thursday, January 12. "You said you weren't going to do it again. You said, for sure you wouldn't do it and now you're doing it."

"The reason I said yes the first time, I was very flattered. It was a huge global audience for a comedian. I like writing jokes. That's what I do," Ricky explained. "The reason I did it the second time, was I thought I could improve on the first. Which I think I did. I wasn't going to do it again, but there were loads of people in the press saying I'd never be invited back and that's why I said yes."
