    • Tim Gunn’s Spring Do’s & Don’ts

Spring is finally here, so Ali invited Tim Gunn to Daily Shot to help us spring-ify our wardrobes. There are a lot of new trends for the season, and Tim Gunn knows better than anyone which looks are worth a try, and which you can ignore completely.

But before you shop for anything this weekend, Tim says to avoid the one fashion mistake most women make: picking the wrong size. “They wear things that are too big or too small,” the fashion guru says, “usually erring on the side of too big.”

As for seasonal trends, what’s the hottest item on Tim’s list? “I’m crazy about these very potently colored chinos.” He favors deeper, more saturated colors over pastels, though, because, “they tend to make women look matronly." The chinos shown in the video are from Old Navy.

Another trend Tim likes, although hesitantly, is the asymmetrical-hem skirt, aka the Mullet Skirt. The hemline, he says, “needs to be subtle and nuanced, you don’t want it thrown in your face.”

      A surprising

    • Juice Cleanses: What’s The Point?

Good-looking celebrities such as Sofia Vergara, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Salma Hayek have all admitted to being on a juice cleanse at some point in their lives.

A juice cleanse is when you give up food and drink only fruit and vegetable juices for anywhere from a day to a few weeks. Or, in Ali’s case, four hours.

So why would anyone do that? Ali asked AJ Jacobs, author of ‘Drop Dead Healthy: One Man's Humble Quest for Bodily Perfection,’ who tried a cleanse or two for his book. Do people really need to clean their organs? Or are they just trying to lose weight quick?

According to Jacobs, a juice cleanse doesn’t really help you do either. Any weight you lose during a cleanse will come back once you’re done. “An easier way would just be to restrict your calories and eat normal food.”

And cleaning toxins out of your body? Well, that’s what your kidneys, liver, and intestines do anyway.

Both Ali and AJ admitted to getting light-headed and spacey when attempting a

    • Why Do Men...?

Why do men do the things they do?  Why are they obsessed with video games and fantasy sports?  Why do they love terrible bands?  Why do they read on the toilet?  Ali gets to the bottom of some of the most mysterious male behavior with Roger Hailes of the Yahoo! Show, Mansome.

Roger was more than happy to be the unelected spokesman for men everywhere. A main motivator for men, he says, is to be able “to participate in something without actually doing it.” Roger estimates that, after a few months of playing something called ‘Assassin’s Creed,’ (which is something called a ‘video game’) he’d be a really excellent “high level assassin.”

As for why they read on the toilet, Roger says the more important question is, “Why DON’T women read on the toilet.”

Ali also wondered why men grunt at the gym.  The answer to that one is apparently simple:  because people grunt when we try.  Roger tried to convince Ali that women do it too, but his only concrete example was Wimbledon.

      After a few more

    • Is Your Chair Trying To Kill You?

It's one of the biggest health dangers since smoking…and you're probably doing it RIGHT NOW.  Are you sitting down?  Because that’s it!  (No really, that’s the health danger.  Sitting.) If you sit for more than four hours a day, your heart disease risk goes up 60 percent, according to a study from University College London.

Ali, who enjoys sitting as much as the next person, didn’t want to believe the hype.  So she asked AJ Jacobs, author of Drop Dead Healthy: One Man’s Humble Quest for Bodily Perfection, if there were any truth in the warnings.

Sadly, according to him, “If you sit all day, it’s bad for your weight, metabolism, and blood sugar level.”

But with so many other health threats out there, a person’s got to prioritize.  So Ali asked AJ to rank the hazards of smoking, motorcycles, artificial sweeteners, alcohol abuse, and sitting in order from least to most dangerous.  Watch Daily Shot to see what he said!

    • Man Talk Decoded: What He Says and What He Really Means

How many times has a friend handed you her phone and asked, “What do you think he means in this text message?” As women, we spend more time than we’d like trying to figure out what men are actually trying to say. That’s why Ali invited comedian Mike Falzone, author of Never Stop Shutting Up: A Book of Advice and Other Things You Didn't Ask For, to do some translating for us. For example, did you ever get one like this? "Hey, sorry I haven't been able to email you back, things have been really crazy at work." Mike decodes that as: "You're not interesting enough to keep up a text conversation with me." Watch the full episode for more tough love.

    • The Hair Down There

Does everyone have to go bald now?

Waxing, plucking, shaving…emergency rooms saw a fivefold increase in pubic grooming injuries over the past decade.  So why is everyone so desperate to take it all off?  Ali discusses this controversial issue with Yahoo! Shine's Elise Sole and Jordan Carlos from the Yahoo show, "Mansome."
    • Crazy Makeup Names Sound Like Restaurant Menu Items

The idea of mildew on your eyes sounds pretty gross to most people, but that apparently doesn’t worry the people who named one of Urban Decay’s eyeshadow colors,‘Mildew.’ It doesn’t contain actual mildew as far as we know, but the hue is a greenish brown.

Rather than putting people off, crazy makeup names have become part of the branding that attracts people to a product.  Some companies go so far as to send employees on inspirational trips to get ideas for a collection, while others just pile a few people in a conference room for a few hours, trying to decide on names that will make customers laugh.

Nail polish giant O.P.I. has a color called “Uh Oh, Roll Down the Window,” also a greenish brown.  Meanwhile, their red, “I’m Not Really a Waitress,” appeals to a customer with a less macabre sense of humor.

Some of the beauty product names, however, simply sound like food.  So Shine Beauty Editor Joanna Douglass subjected Ali Wentworth to a game of ‘Eat It or Wear It,’ where she had to
