In today's tale from the beauty school of hard knocks, a woman in Beverly Hills spent $20,000 on a high-tech facial that claimed to help lift and tighten her face. What she got instead was excruciating pain in her right eye and a clicking noise every time she opened and closed her eye. I grew up with a mom who got her nails done every Friday. I remember going with her to the beauty shop and admiring all of the pretty colors. I knew if I sat still the whole time, I could get a quick mani too. I didn't move for a whole 30 minutes! Fast-forward 20 years. Here I am, getting weekly or bi-weekly manicures just like my mom. I try and take good care of my nails, minus the occasional nervous bite or break here and there. But I began to notice the color of my bare nails changing. How could this be when I take such pride in them? "You can give your hair the TLC it needs to look its best by using items you have at home," notes Lorri Goddard Clark for the Privé Salon in Los Angeles, whose clients include Reese Witherspoon. Here, she dishes on her tried-and-true recipes for getting - and maintaining - healthy hair.

1. Feed Your Head "You can't have full, bouncy hair without a healthy scalp," says Goddard-Clark. To reduce excess oil, dampen a cotton ball with witch hazel, dab it along your hairline and part, and rinse hair with cool water. Fight flakes weekly by adding five drops of tea-tree oil to your favorite shampoo as a booster. Skip conditioner, though, and apply a detangler only to the ends of your hair - your scalp may be sensitive after this treatment.

MC Tip: Before any type of scalp treatment, check for burns from hot tools that could be easily irritated.
