Winter skincareWinter Beauty Woes
Not only is the weather outside frightful, as the holiday song goes, but it can also make you look frightful. Between the icy dry air and wind outdoors and the hot dry air indoors, you may be contending with flaky skin, chapped lips, parched locks, raw hands, and more. Send those winter beauty woes packing with these head-to-toe pro tips and product picks.
1. SPEED-SHOWER It's counterintuitive, but getting soaked in water sucks the moisture out of skin. Stick to a five-minute shower to help prevent dryness. "Get in, get out," advises Ranella Hirsch, M.D., a dermatologist in Boston.
2. DON'T DRY OFF COMPLETELY "The emollient in lotion seals in skin's own moisture," explains Dr. Hirsch, "so slather it on slightly damp skin. For an extra boost, look for a lotion with a humectant like glycerin, which simultaneously attracts moisture to skin." Try Nivea Express Hydration Daily Lotion with Hydra IQ ($9, drugstores).
3. SOOTHE WITH OATMEAL

At ELLE's 18 th annual Women in Hollywood event, Heigl offset a classic neckline and retro peachy keen pout with a modern textured updo.
Heigl's soft, slightly tousled waves were spontaneous and sexy; natural-looking makeup added to the carefree vibe.
To showcase her darkened locks-and glowing complexion-Heigl chose old-Hollywood curls, a touch of blush, and sparkling statement earrings.
At the premiere of The Ugly Truth in Los Angeles, Heigl's shimmering makeup and radiant skin matched her bedazzled décolleté, while newly auburn hair enhanced her golden brown eyes.
At the 80 th Annual Academy Awards, Heigl channeled Marilyn Monroe-and her resemblance to the silver-screen icon was uncanny!

It's time to get your glow on with a St. Tropez tan!
-Diana Denza, BettyConfidential.com
st. tropez event
I have never stepped out in a faux tan. Ever. I am about as low-key as a gal can get without looking sloppy. Most mornings, I can barely muster the effort to swipe on mascara and tinted gloss.
So when I walked into the St. Tropez 2012 Trend Event in NYC, I was expecting to nod politely and watch the gaggle of models somehow manage to apply the lotions and sprays with flawless precision. Much to my (pleasant) surprise, it took mere minutes for me to grab an applicator mitt and slather on my first dose of self-tanner.
I couldn't help but be enamored of the St. Tropez Everyday Gradual Tan For Body ($30,sephora.com). It's foolproof, even for a tanning newbie like me. Plus, it looks, smells, and feels like your daily moisturizer! But here's the kicker: every time you massage the lotion onto your skin, you'll also be building up a gorgeous glow. And the best part is that you'll neverRead More »from White Winter? Warm Up Your Skin with St. Tropez Self-Tanner
Your lashes will reach great lengths after only a few swipes from Avon's cool mascara!
-Diana Denza, BettyConfidential.com
I am a mascara fiend. To prove it, I have an entire makeup bag overflowing with tubes of the stuff--and that's just from this year. But sadly, I could never quite find a mascara that I could wear everywhere from my home to the club…clump-free, of course!
That is, until I tried the Avon Super Shock Mascara ($4.99, avon.com), a totally affordable, must-have beauty product.
This lash-lengthening and defining formula is packed into a chic metallic blue tube, making finding it in an oversized tote a breeze. Since I'm constantly lugging around a stash of beauty tools around (yes, I accumulate products quickly), it's rather easy to locate among my many lip glosses and eyeliners.
But let's face it: I'd dig until the polish chipped off my nails for the perfect mascara. But in this case, I was able to experience best of both worlds. I put this AvonRead More »from Road Test: Avon Super Shock Mascara

snowflake manicure nail polish'Tis the season to jazz up your beauty routine. If festive, bold red lips aren't your thing, then how about a fun DIY holiday manicure to get you in the spirit?
After seeing a bunch of different holiday tutorials around the web showing how to paint every design from swirling striped candy canes to cascading snowflakes, I decided, as a serious nail polish addict, that it was about time I gave it a go. My goal: A snowflake manicure.

My makeup-obsessed cousin.
This girl practically lives in Sephora, so when I saw Tarte's mega-makeup palette (the starlet limited-edition makeup vanity) in its chic mirrored box (above), it had her name written all over it. With a bazillion velvety eye shadows (some shimmery; some matte, and in every shade in the rainbow), lash primer, mascara, blush, bronzer, and powder, she'll never run out of makeup. But on the off chance she somehow works through all of it, the case
