By Piper Weiss, Shine Staff | Beauty on Shine – Tue, Aug 21, 2012 3:46 PM EDTThis past weekend 116 contestants gathered in the remote town Odros City in China's Inner Mongolia district for the annual Miss World Pageant.
Representatives from countries around the world, including South Sudan, Guatemala, The Netherlands and the U.S., formed a kind of United Nations summit on bathing suits and ball gowns.

So it stands to reason, when China's Wenxia Yu was crowned as the winner on Saturday, not everyone was in agreement.
"I was not surprised at all to see that the winner of the pageant was Miss China given that it was held in a Chinese city with Chinese hosts and a huge group of screaming Chinese fans that erupted into applause every time she was mentioned," one commenter wrote on a Huffington Post article announcing the winner. He also added the hashtags: "#Rigged #Fake #SecondPlaceOlympicsRebound"
A Daily Mail reporter also caught the Olympic connection, cheekily congratulating China on its Miss

By The chicks at TotalBeauty.com | Beauty on Shine – Tue, Aug 21, 2012 2:48 PM EDTYou gotta love a man who raves about the transformative power of a pedi.
That's one of the reasons we are all about Newark, New Jersey Mayor, Corey Booker. He recently confessed that he sneaks off in the middle of the night to get his fingers and toes buffed and polished at a local 24-hour salon.

But why in the middle of the night, Mr. Mayor? Real men get their toes done in broad daylight! Don't believe me? Just look at Tim Tebow, Dwayne Wade, and P Diddy. Even Justin Bieber has his own nail polish collection.

While she describes her color on Twitter as "Louis Vuitton brown," we see it more as a warm caramel hue. She does have one bold blonde streak on the side, but that's the only Gaga-like detail we see. Gone are the elaborate hair bows and theatrical updos.
Do you think this tame look is here to stay, or will we be seeing meat-laden hairbands soon enough?

Perhaps the most versatile look in a makeup artist's repertoire is the smoky eye, and its shape and intensity have varied wildly from season to season. Punk-rock-inspired gothic interpretations ruled the early aughts; later, pewter panda eyes eased into more subtle washes of color. Our favorite? The gray and burgundy shadows blended over lids at Salvatore Ferragamo.
Pro tip: Don't be afraid to take neutral hues up to the brow bone for more impact.

This is the thing about foundations: It's kind of like shapewear. At its worst, it's uncomfortable, it makes you sweat, and people can tell you're wearing it. But at its best, you look flawless, all the right places are expertly concealed-and nobody knows exactly why.

And just like Spanx, the kind of coverage you need depends on the look you're going for. Just keep in mind that the goal is to use as little foundation as possible.
