• When I was 5, I had a few "naughty" behaviors: chasing boys and skinning my knees, stealing candy at the checkout line, and getting into my mom's makeup stash.

I've obviously grown up since then, and, yes, I now pay for my candy, but my obsession for getting into all the makeup I can certainly didn't fade -- with one caveat; I only really like "safe" colors. I can never have too much peach-colored lip gloss and you'll find 10 subtly different pale pink nail polishes in my bathroom cabinet. And while I'm perfectly happy in my beige/pink comfort zone, every season, I stare in unadulterated envy at the Fashion Week models decked out in the newest crazy makeup colors that I just know wouldn't look right on me.

And this flurry of shows wasn't any different. Wild, fluorescent orange eyeshadow and purple lips looked amazing on the glamazons, and again, I lived vicariously through their brazen nonchalance before returning

  • vintage skincarevintage skincareI'm going through a bit of a nostalgic phase. Maybe it's because I've been wearing my grandmother's blond fur stole a bunch, or maybe it's because Leap Day made me yearn for the simpler times when there were only 365 days in a year; whatever the case may be, I'm super into learning about what ladies did way back when. Earlier this week we discovered their Anti-Flirting rules from the 1920s and today we've got a vintage video from 1937 of Hollywood starlet Constance Bennett giving skincare advice.

And me oh my, it's brilliant for so many reasons. Notwithstanding the gorgeous sleigh bed, the maid, and Constance's singsong voice, the best part of the video is that it highlights the fact that women have been doing the same thing for decades.

Makeup and skincare haven't changed that much in the last 70 years, as evidenced by Constance's routine. It's hard to really improve on such a classic practice. Sure our

  • lipsticklipstickI once read a survey that claimed that a third of American women won't leave the house without their makeup on. As a mother who is just happy to have a kid whose teeth are brushed and clothes on when it's time to get going most days, I'm going to be honest with you. The luxury of fixing one's self up in the comfort of my own bathroom is over-rated!

Those of us with too little time on our hands have perfected the art of getting our beauty rituals on anywhere but the house. Case in point: I carry tweezers everywhere because when you find a few seconds to pluck, you take advantage of them -- wherever you are. But a quick eyebrow grab at a stoplight has nothing on some of the crazy makeup fixes some of my friends have copped to. Trust me ... you have to read 'em to believe 'em:

-- Under my desk at work. I've also been known to floss under there too or even pluck an eyebrow hair here and there!

    -- I was in the

  • Remember the days when you used to have an extra hour to stand in front of the bathroom mirror to style your hair, apply your makeup, and ensure that you looked absolutely picture perfect before leaving the house? Yeah -- me neither.

As much as we'd love to put a little more time and effort into our beauty routines each day, being a mom just doesn't quite lend itself to having a ton of free time to make our personal appearance a top priority.

More from The Stir: The Insane Thing Women Would Rather Do Than Go Without Makeup

But even though our time may be much more limited as mothers, if we focus on a few essential beauty items instead of trying to use every single product in our bathroom, then we can easily pull off looking put together and polished without it disrupting our schedule. Because there are really only 5 things that every mom needs in order to look good.

    1. A good under-eye concealer: Nothing says "I was up all night with a crying child" like visible dark

  • In case you didn't know, Jessica Biel is really, really good at keeping secrets. When she and Justin Timberlake got engaged, all we got were spotty sightings of the engagement ring and seriously limited details of how it happened. (Talk about flying under the radar.)

But with all of this recent prenup talk -- she gets $500K each time he cheats … supposedly -- we know the wedding is coming up soon, as in, this summer. And since it's her birthday tomorrow (she's turning the big 3-0), we figure now is as good a time as any to discuss the wedding details. Besides, who doesn't love wedding talk?

Angelina Jolie's right leg has taken on a mind of its own (not to mention a Twitter account and blog reel). And though we're just as perplexed by the actress' Oscar pose as the next person, we can't blame her for wanting to show off a good-looking limb. Pulling off a slit that high requires an inordinate amount of confidence-not to mention some really well-toned quads. We talked to makeup artist Tracy Murphy and spray tanner Anna Stankiewicz for their tips on drawing attention to your legs-without causing an Internet meme.

Go Darker: Makeup artist Tracy Murphy, who has been working with Sports Illustrated swimsuit models for 10 years, swears by self-tanner. Legs never look better than when they have a really dark tan, says Murphy. To keep your tan from looking blotchy, exfoliate (wax or shave) and apply lotion to your knees, ankles, and feet before applying.

  • Lindsay Lohan

We're used to seeing celebs with boob jobs and nose jobs, but lately, we're seeing stars like Lindsay Lohan, Megan Fox, and Jessica Biel looking pillow-faced and almost bursting with fillers like Restylane and Juvederm, not to mention sporting the lineless Botoxed foreheads of twenty-five-year-olds.

Except that these stars aren't old ladies trying to recapture their former beauty with Botox-they really are twenty-five! Yet they've been plumped and injected just as much as the Real Housewives. While plastic surgery used to be the domain of middle-aged people to shave a few years off their faces, younger women in their teens and twenties are now flocking to cosmetic procedures, especially non-invasive ones like peels and injectables. Some surgeons even recommend Botox and other treatments to clients in their mid-twenties as a preventative measure to avoid future wrinkles. We're all for a healthy dose of prevention, but Botox at 25? Really? Is that prevention or premature

How to get glowing skin may seem like one of the great mysteries of the universe, but it doesn't have to be. Not if you know these four tricks anyway. Here are the secrets:

    1) Use my two-step process. See, the first thing you probably think of here is to use an illuminating face primer or pearly highlighter, which will work, sure. But my trick to making it look natural is to smear it on the areas you want to "glow" and then put a tinted moisturizer on top to mute it a bit. Worked for this reader.

    2) Exfoliate. Nothing dulls your skin like some sad dead skin cells lying around.

    3) Smear a bit of a cream with a natural sheen like Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream or Rosebud Lip Salve on your cheekbones. This is a great option for daytime because there's no actual shimmer to get too sparkly on you in the sunlight.
