photo: Giovanni Giannoni/WWD Blue eye shadow and neon lipstick sure are fun to look at, but ask me how I actually want to look and one word sums it up: luminous. Which was exactly how the models at Oscar de la Renta's show looked yesterday, thanks to makeup artist Gucci Westman.

"The skin is superluminous," Westman said of the peachy, pink-y, pretty complexions she sent down the runway. The look was inspired by classic film stars Tippi Hedren and Kim Novak, as well as the Elizabethan theme that was subtly referenced in the uber-ladylike clothes. (So ladylike, in fact, that tattooed models had to get their ink covered up with body makeup, according to our backstage correspondent.) To create those pearly complexions, Westman used Revlon Skinlights all over the face and Revlon Cream Shadow Palette in Not Just Nudes to highlight the high points-the nose, brows, and cheekbones. The rest of the look was achieved through some serious color mixing (no

photo by Todd Matarazzo/WWD Fearless hairstylist Odile Gilbert was at it again at the Rodarte show at New York Fashion Week. A while back, she painted a cheetah pattern on the hair of models at a Jean-Paul Gaultier fashion show, but this time she evoked a beast of a different stripe: a zebra.

No actual model's hair was harmed in making this cool animal effect. Instead, Odile used stencils to paint the black, white, and metallic zebra stripes on extensions, then attached them to one side of the hair, and sprayed with John Frieda Frizz-Ease 3-Day Straight Semi-Permanent Styling Spray. The other side, in sharp contrast, was styled in a glamorous take on the '80s Los Angeles look. "We clip it in below a deep side part, cut it short, and pin it all to the side," she said. The Rodarte designers, sisters Kate and Laura Mulleavy, cemented the zoological connection by giving the models Sally Hansen tortoiseshell manicures. Wild,

Amanda Schwab/Startrakphoto, Courtesy, Time Inc Digital Studios (2)Very rarely does a makeup look stand out and blend in all at once, but the glowing effect created by Gucci Westman for Oscar de la Renta's Spring 2014 show did just that. We love how it didn't outshine de la Renta's intricate gowns, but held an ethereal effect all on its own. "The clothes had somewhat of a '50s and '60s feel, and I was very inspired by Kim Novak and Tippi Hedren for this look - classic beauties that are timeless and cool," Westman told us backstage before the show. "I've also been wanting to do a lip gloss all week, so we're doing that here. We're using the Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butters in Pink Lemonade and Juicy Papaya ($8 each; drugstore.com) and are layering the Lip Gloss in Snow Pink ($8; drugstore.com) on top." For the eyes, Westman used the primer from Revlon's Shadow + Sparkle in Metropolitan ($8; drugstore.com), then blended three violet, pink, and peach hues from her spring collaboration with the brand over the lids, concentrating the deeper shades near theRead More »from Try This at Home: Oscar De La Renta’s Ethereal Makeup

One thing we have come to expect from the Kate Spade New York presentation at Fashion Week is that the hair and makeup will always be fun and vibrant! Spring 2014 wasn't any different. Neil Scibelli, for Jouer Cosmetics, created a double cat eye in black and white with bubblegum-pink lips.
Deborah Lippmann conceptualized the almond shape of the nails with vibrant tips, while hairstylist Tommy Buckett was responsible for the easy-to-re-create top knot. Join us backstage as we report on what it takes to get Kate Spade-ready and view all the looks here.

Creatures of the Wind. Photo by Giovanni Giannoni/WWD.Along with maybe-office-friendly blazer vests, another hot trend we've spotted on the spring 2014 runways: flat shoes. (Don't tell high-heel-loving Victoria Beckham, OK?) YES, some of the hottest and edgiest designers at NYFW showed us that flats don't have to be practical and snoozy. Let's take a look:
The cool kids at Creatures of the Wind (above) sent these zip-detailed and lipstick-red pointy loafers down the runway. Look closely for the bedazzled heel, which makes the shoe an inspired complement to a tea-length cocktail dress.

We not only got an exclusive look backstage at Tracy Reese's Spring 2014 New York Fashion Week show, but also received tutorials from the lead hairstylist and makeup artist. Ouidad creative director Morgan Willhite explained how to achieve the romantic bun she created, which used minimal product for a matted, natural formation. Then, makeup artist Mally Roncal used gloss on the lips - and the brows - for a high-shine look. And Sally Hansen artists created the easy-to-replicate (yet stunning!) nail art. Plus, the models were adorned in intricate temporary tattoos before hitting the catwalk. No wonder we couldn't keep our eyes off Tracy's runway.

Getty Images We're more than halfway through New York Fashion Week and as we all know, half of the fun is the unexpected amount of interesting/fascinating/SAY WHAT?! moments that are guaranteed to happen (but you never really know when they will hit).
Interesting: Take, for example, the Thom Browne runway show (above), which took place on Monday afternoon. Yes, it was insanely beautiful. It was also kind of mind blowing in a what-just-happened kind of way, when you saw the models transformed into these psychotic porcelain dolls.
See what I mean? Head on over to Style.com for more of this latex-covered Elizabethan fantasy world.
Fascinating: Next up, we have a Jonas Brothers sighting at the Richard Chai Love show. I mention it, because I sat across from them and noticed a level of excitement from the ladies in the audience that I thought had since passed. I guess I was wrong. It turns out they've still got it! Long live 2008! Getty Images
