Ellen DeGeneres-who, since her monologue, has hosted with a somewhat laissez-faire, improvisational style-took some time during tonight's proceedings to take a selfie, in an attempt to produce the most retweeted tweet of all time.
And she made a valiant effort, first approaching Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts, and then eventually roping in the likes of Brangelina, J. Law, Lupita Nyong'o, Jared Leto, Bradley Cooper, and Kevin Spacey. (The A-plus list shot was crashed by Nyongo's brother, whose phone no doubt immediately combusted due to text message overload.)
As of this posting, the selfie has been retweeted more than 500,000 times, which puts it about 300,000 away from the record, which is held at the moment by an image of Barack and Michelle Obama hugging after Barack was re-elected on November 6, 2012.
