Can you be addicted to the Internet? Can you go more than a few hours without checking your Facebook? Does the idea of being away from your laptop or iPad make you break out into a sweat? Do you spend so much time on the Internet that you're ignoring your friends, family, and work? If you said yes, yes, and yes, you may be addicted to the Internet.
Internet addiction is a hotly debated topic within the medical community. According to the American Psychiatric Association, it's not an official psychiatric disorder, so it's not in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM). However, the country's first inpatient treatment program for Internet addiction opened this week at Bradford Regional Medical Center in Pennsylvania. Designed to house up to four patients at one time, the program aims to provide a 72-hour digital detox and lasts 10 days total. Because Internet addiction is not considered a mental illness, the treatments won't be covered by insurance.

1. HOOKAHS ARE SAFER THAN CIGARETTES.
False. A typical hookah session lasts 45 minutes, so you're exposed to at least 50 times more smoke than if you lit one cigarette. Plus, "water-pipe smoke contains about eight times the carbon monoxide, nearly two times the nicotine, and 36 times the tar of a cigarette," says Thomas Eissenberg, Ph.D., at the Institute for Drug and Alcohol Studies at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond.

2. YOU CANCEL OUT THE EFFECTS OF PARTYING IF YOU "PRE-TOX" DURING THE WEEK.
False. "One drink a day can be good for you," says Lisa R. Young, R.D., Ph.D., author of The Portion Teller. "But if you skip Wednesday and Thursday, that doesn't mean you can have three drinks on Friday and toast to your health," she says. "Your body (namely, your liver) can't handle so much alcohol at once, even if you didn't drink for a few days beforehand."

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West recently bought not one, but SIX $175K beds for their Bel Aire home! We put one to the test.
Savoir's $175,000 bedThe first question everyone asks after you mention you've napped on a $175,000 bed is: "Is it worth the price?"
I can't answer that; I'm not at the point in my life where any one item, except for a home, is worth the amount. But I can tell you this: Savoir's Royal State bed was the most comfortable bed I've ever taken a nap on.
The mattress was plush and soft-but not puffed up or flossy feeling-yet completely supportive. The silk sheets (which are included in the purchase price, as are the pillows, headboard, canopy and bed frame itself) were cool, substantial and, yes, silky. I had 17 minutes for my nap, so I climbed up on the bed-I love a bed with some height; it makes me feel like a fairytale princess-in the NYC showroom where it was being shown this week, put on my sleep mask, and lay down. I lay there with my eyes closed and while I didn't fallRead More »from So, What's it like to Sleep in the World's Most Expensive Bed?

Zarebinski Lucas and Schrager VictorTurns out not everything you actually want to eat is bad for you, particularly when it comes to building brighter, whiter teeth. We found five foods typically reserved for "cheat" days that are doctor-approved for a strong, sparkling smile.
Go ahead, order the rib eye. According to the American Dental Association, the phosphorus in steak protects tooth enamel and bone. "Plus, the constant chewing that comes with red meat also keeps the mouth and gums exercising to keep them strong," says Irwin Smigel, D.D.S., P.C., founder and president of the American Society for Dental Aesthetics and creator of the Supersmile whitening system. In fact, a 2013 German study suggests that the more you chew, the stronger and cleaner your teeth.

Your between-meal bites could be sabotaging your weight loss.Like any smart woman trying to make the number on the scale go down or stay steady, you snack during the day to keep your energy tank full, boost metabolism, and make sure you don't stand a chance of overeating. But to reap those benefits, you need to be strategic about what you eat, when you eat it, and how much you eat, otherwise you'll end up packing on pounds. Follow these easy snacking tips, and your munching will never meddle with your weight.
1. Focus on Your Health: Since most Americans are not eating enough fruits and vegetables every day, or getting in the daily-recommended amount of omega 3s, "consider snacking a prime opportunity to work on fulfilling these nutritional needs," says Elizabeth Somer, R.D., author of Eat Your Way to Sexy. Skip candy, cheese puffs, and other foods without benefits, and instead try to include two food groups at every meal: one fruit or vegetable and a source of omega-3 fatty acids, such as walnuts, flaxseeds, or

Courtesy of Subway You likely know now Subway spokesperson Jared used the sub sammies to help him seriously slim down. However, Jared isn't the only one who likes to eat the subs to stay fit. A recent study asking fans how they would prepare to strut their stuff this NYC Fashion Week season found that approximately eight in ten women -- 78.8, be exact -- would turn to Subway restaurants to eat fresh and keep their figures fashion-forward. Surprisingly, only six percent of women polled prefer to dine-in and prepare their own meals instead. To that end, the brand will be putting on their own "Project Subway" fashion show apart from Lincoln Center today, serving as the inspiration behind this season's unconventional bespoke collection made from solely recycled restaurant packaging materials.
You can stay fit while enjoying a Subway sandwich as well thanks to their Fresh Fit Choices menu, which is the first fast food menu to earn American Heart Association certification. MAJOR bonus

Ride the bunny waves at WaikikiLa Jolla Shores Hotel
Maybe you think you're not a Waikiki person. Maybe you think you prefer something a bit more secluded and exclusive. But consider this: With its warm water, dependably gentle waves, and novice-nurturing surf schools, Waikiki Beach remains the most forgiving place in the world to learn to surf or steer an outrigger canoe.
The Sheraton Waikiki stands midway along the 2-mile-long beach, and while its high-rise architecture shouts 1970s, a $187 million renovation has given it 21st-century polish. And those Waikiki waves are timelessly perfect. From $225; 800/325-3535.

So here's the thing, I don't really like exercising. I realize this goes against the subject line, but bear with me a moment. While I would prefer to do just about ANYTHING else, I also realize that working out is essential to how I feel, especially as a mother. This has been a learning process (and a SLOW one at that...) but it's a routine I'm vowing to stick with as long as I can. Simply put, I feel so much better afterwards. I'm never going to be a skinny minny, and that's okay. I do like feeling strong... especially when I'm hauling my child in a stroller into the subway!
With that said, I recently attended a class here in NYC called "Baby Bounce Back," led by fitness instructor Karen Vizueta. Karen is a mother of three children, and let me just say her post-baby abs are inspiring. The best part about these exercises? You can do them at home with the use of a Pilates Ring. I suppose it could be argued that after I decided to lose the "Newlywed 19," I started on the weight loss plateau. For several weeks after my husband and I began running together and trying to figure out how to feed ourselves good food, I didn't see any progress. I'm not going to lie - it was discouraging. Slowly, however, things began to change. I kept at it, ran until it hurt, cut back on sweets, and learned to cook. And pretty soon I started to feel like a better version of myself: more energetic and confident in my body, more capable of doing the things I needed to do, and more interested in making healthy choices and leading an active lifestyle. My experience with losing weight and building a healthy living pattern is pretty typical. Common, even. Whatever the reason, don't let a little (or a lot) of time on the weight loss plateau keep you from working toward the healthy lifestyle you have planned. These tips will help you out of your rut and on the track to better health. -ByRead More »from Sense of Scale: 7 Smart Tips for Overcoming a Weight Loss Plateau
