For spring, designers ushered in nouveau silhouettes. From a mid-length hemline to louche, slouchy trousers, here's how to make them fab, not frumpy. By Anamaria Wilson
THE NEW LENGTH
From left: Narisco Rodriguez, Michael Kors, Chloé
It was at the Narciso Rodriguez show that a new silhouette began to emerge. Model of the moment Arizona Muse wafted down the runway in a perfect incarnation of the designer's soft-edged minimalism: a white dress. The hem, however, hovered a couple of inches above the ankle - a no-man's-land between midi and maxi. It looked intriguingly chic on the genetically gifted blonde, but for the rest of us, it left a question mark. But how to pull off these chic standouts? First, heels are a must, and ankle-strap versions were a designer favorite. And Sarah Easley, co-owner of haute New York shop Kirna Zabête, advises, "Avoid heavy layers on top, show some shoulder and arm, and wear heels."

If you're anything like me you are so over winter coats, thick sweater tights and the overbearing feel of winter. Unfortunately Mother Nature and mother fashion are not always on the same climate schedule and though all of her fashionistas are ready to move on to warm weather looks-we still have a few snowfalls to smile and scrape through. However, that doesn't mean you can't update your wardrobe immediately. Most of these styles can carry you through 'til spring, especially when paired with your favorite jacket or jeans.
1. Floral Print Dress
My absolute favorite spring update, perfect with tights and a bright cardigan. Alice + Olivia Cabella silk floral print dress ($297, bloomingdales.com)

Keds are even more classic than you think. Nearly 100 years ago in 1916, Keds created "the Champion" a canvas shoe with a soft rubber sole so quiet you could sneaker around silently, hence the term sneakers! The simple shape and light-weight, comfortable design has come in and out of mainstream popularity over the years, but we still love Keds and consider the sneakers a timeless footwear staple.
There was a brief Keds clothing line in the late 1980s to early 1990s that we loved, so we are psyched to hear that a new Keds clothing collection-for men and women-is set to launch in early 2012. Rick Darling, President of LF USA, announced the new line this week. "An iconic American brand, we are thrilled to partner with Keds to extend its fashion influence beyond footwear," said Darling. "Synonymous with casual, everyday style, we see tremendous opportunities to build on the strong heritage and spirit of the Keds brand to bring consumers a new, differentiated apparel collection."Spring’s Three Worst Trends for Petites (And What to Wear Instead)

The style pendulum's swinging this spring, with wide-leg pants subbing for skinny jeans and ankle-length skirts picking up where miniskirts left off. We've sifted through the three worst offenders for petite figures - and figured out how to nail the look anyway.

Mid-calf skirts
Mid-calf skirts in bulky materials like faux leather and stiff denim are a big trend for spring. Though the retro-inspired length is fun, all that fabric overwhelms a smaller frame.Alternative: Opt for a light, pleated ballet-inspired skirt like this pretty, navy blue version from Lulu's. You'll get the on-trend hemline without letting the heavy fabric weigh you down.

Super wide leg pants
Wide leg pants are set to replace skinny jeans this season, and although well-tailored trousers are almost universally figure-flattering, the extreme, balloon-like version of this trend swallows petites.Alternative: Wear the

The New Classics
The snow is melting and the temperature is rising, which means it's time to break out your warm-weather wear! But while spring definitely calls for a wardrobe uplift, that doesn't mean you have to buy all new clothes. These essential items are enough to make your wardrobe shine-without breaking the bank.
Double Breasted Trench CoastWear this updated classic come rain or shine, thanks to its versatile color and figure-flattering cut. The knee-grazing hem works equally well over skirts, pants and dresses. But be sure to choose a sturdy cotton or poplin fabric, says Goodman. Sharply Tailored Shirt
On its own or layered under a jacket or sweater, this wear-itwith- anything top is a go-to day after day. "When you find a fit you like, consider buying several in different colors," suggests Read More »from Must-Have Spring Fashion Staples
