Sandy and Danny may have thought their summer dreams were ripped at the seams, but we all know how that story turned out. More recently, Justin Timberlake swore that that his new romance "just can't be summer love". What ever do you mean, JT? That "summer love" is less worthy, less credible, less real than love that begins during other times of the year?

Summer begins officially on June 21, but already, new summer romances are cropping up everywhere, hot and heavy and seemingly off to a great start. But, will they last, or are they just "summer loves" that will end when it turns colder?

Why is summer, in all its warmth and abundance, associated with a special kind of love -

  • EatingWell's Salsa RojaEatingWell's Salsa RojaThis weekend celebrity chef Rick Bayless will be headlining Celebration Weekend 2011, Sunset magazine's festival in Menlo Park, California. He'll be demonstrating recipes like Mexican-Style Shrimp Cocktail, Sundried Tomato Guacamole, and Tropical Beach Ceviche, while many of us are at home left to our jars of Pace and salsa con queso. I figured we better talk to him. If you don't know Rick or won't have a chance to be in the festival's Chase Sapphire VIP lounge, just know that he's been studying Mexican cooking in Mexico for most of his life, and he's good. So good he won the first season of Top Chef Masters (which he described as the most stressful experience of his life), as well as four James Beard awards. We were lucky enough to talk with him and get his top tip for improving our favorite Mexican dish.

I started with a question that let Rick know I was with it. "What do Americans do wrong when it comes to Mexican food?" He laughed a laugh that said, that is a bad question

  • Summertime livin' might be easy, but it can wreak total havoc on our skin. Sun, humidity, and sweat are just some of the things that bring our faces one step closer to a bad outtake from Something About Mary, but it turns out your favorite summer drink has some dangers of its own. Limes, our favorite summer garnish for everything from beer to classy cocktails, can cause a severe skin rash called phytophotodermatitis when their juice reacts with the sun on your skin.

Jessica Wu, M.D., author of Feed Your Face, cleverly calls the condition "The Other Lime Disease," and while it's not particularly serious, it can cause a sunburn-like rash and red blisters or splotches on the skin. The condition is caused by a chemical reaction between certain plant compounds found in limes - called coumarins - and the UVA rays in the sun, which damages your skin's DNA, causing the rash.

3 Steps to Naturally Radiant Skin

The best way to avoid phytophotodermatitis is to simply wash your

  • Summer is fun but it needs its own systems and routines to work best. Here are some suggestions from de-cluttering expert Lorie Marrero:

    1. Figure out what activities are going to be occurring frequently and create systems.
Activities such as swimming or sports will need storage for the gear involved. Storage should be easy for kids to manage on their own. Don't forget to create homes for the details like goggles, pool toys, and gate keys or membership cards. Related: What's Your Organizing Style?

    2. Make your kitchen kid-friendly for them and clean-up friendly for you.
Place cups, bowls and healthful snacks within their reach, as age-appropriate. You can also try color-coding your glasses so you know that "the blue glass belongs to Joey," and he can be responsible for it.

    3. Give the kids some chores to provide a sense of contribution and routine. My own children have been putting their dirty dishes in the dishwasher basically since they were able to

  • Image from odditycentral.comImage from odditycentral.comThis might be the weirdest swimsuit ever (unless it's this one). It's made by designer Andrew Schneider, covered in solar panels and has USB ports so you can charge stuff like your phone or ipod while you're at the beach.

Sounds kind of insane, right? But actually there are a few reasons I'd consider wearing it:

    1. Each suit is made to measure (hello, custom swimsuit!) and only costs $200. There are plenty of normal bathing suits that cost that much, and they won't do a thing when my iPhone dies.

    2. You actually can wear it in the water. Just unplug your gadgets before you jump in the pool and make sure the USB ports are dry before plugging them back in.

Aaaaand, there is one big reason I haven't ordered mine yet:

It doesn't say -- and the pictures don't show -- where the heck you plug in said gadgets. Considering the limited real estate available when it comes to bikinis, I feel like almost any spot is going to look at best weird and at worst obscene.

    What

  • User post: Watermelon Lemonade

Since this week officially feels like summer, Jeff and I decided to make a "summery" drink! Jeff loves watermelon more than any other food. We saw a bunch of watermelon lemonade recipes on a foodgawker so decided to give it a try ourselves.

(Click on any of the pictures for more recipes on my blog!)

One summer during our family vacation he even ate so much watermelon that he threw up. See for yourself (I had to search around on FB to find these old pictures)...

I still have to remind Jeff to slow down when inhaling watermelon, but he is doing better!
    Ingredients:

    • 6 cups water
    • Juice of 3 lemons
    • 2 cups diced watermelon
    • 1/3 cup sugar
    • 2 cups ice
-First, mix the water and the lemon juice together. Add in the sugar and stir well until fully dissolved (use luke warm water so sugar dissolves).

-Chop up the watermelon and add along with the ice to the lemonade. -Chill in the refrigerator for at least an hour before serving!

Not only is this drink refreshing, but also Read More »from User post: Watermelon Lemonade
