If you're ready for a complete hair makeover in 2012, take your cue from celebrity trendsetters that have already changed up their signature look. Some of the year's hottest trends include the slicked back pony tail, retro-inspired cuts, and tousled waves. You probably won't have to chop off too many inches to achieve a Hollywood-inspired look this year, but you might consider a color change or playing with a new part.
Here are five celebrity hair style trends to watch in 2012:
#1: Michelle Williams' Pixie Cut
If you're ready to go short - super short - this season, be bold and go for a pixie cut. Michelle Williams pulled off this chic look with style at this year's Critics' Choice Awards ceremony in Los Angeles. It can be a very flattering cut for women with very bold, prominent features and will draw attention up to the eyes. It's also one of the more fuss-free 'dos for the year.
#2: Alexa Chung's Tousled Shag
If you prefer a less-sculpted and sleek look, take a hint from Alexa Chung. Chung's tousled waves are just one type of chopped bob which falls about two inches below her jawline. This is one of those carefree hairstyles you can just pull up in a ponytail at the last minute, dry quickly with a scrunching technique, and tame with a skinny hair band.
#3: Mila Kunis's Long Locks
Long, lustrous locks are still en vogue this year but you'll want to add some waves to the ends to create a more textured look -- think Kim Kardashian without the bangs. Mila Kunis is one starlet to watch when you're looking for some style inspiration for longer hair. Wear your hair down in a deep part and use a large-barreled curling iron to add some waves and curls from the mid-neck area down.
#4: Katy Perry's Electric Blue Hair
If punk glam is more your thing, take your cue from stars like Katy Perry, Dakota Fanning, and Selena Gomez who are dying their hair (or adding extensions) in electrifying colors. Katy Perry dyed her hair blue after splitting up with Russell Brand late last year, and stars like Selena Gomez added bold, neon-colored extensions to their tresses.
#5: Kim Kardashian's Sleek Ponytail
When it's time to pull your hair up in a tight ponytail, add some volume to your crown and straighten the tips with a flat iron for a celebrity-inspired look. Kim Kardashian's sleek ponytail with the volume boost on top is a fresh new look for the year - and one that almost anyone can pull off.
