It's not all about Eve (Lom): Our Three Fave Fancy Face Cleansers
Did Eve Lom start the fancy face cleansing balm trend? We here at PF HQ think so. We've been a fan of hers since the late '90s, when we spent many an afternoon hiking up to Barneys to get our hands on her famous, herbal cleansing goo complete with muslin washcloth. (True story: I once got an exclusive facial from Eve herself, and she did this crazy massage thing where she um, not only righted my crow's feet, she also gave the girls a feel...it was weird, but hey, she's European!). Anyhoo, lately it's not all about Eve. We're cheating on her. Read More »

A star is born with newly launched boutique site pinkstarshop.com
The just-launched website pinkstarshop.com is so new that its inventory is still pretty thin, but what it does have is absolutely worth scoping out. From Society for Rational Dress, for example, there's this inspired take on the LBD. It's minimalist, but the asymmetrical cutout and elegantly... Read More »- Let’s talk: Comment (0) | Blog

The Artist's Way: Paint-splashed dresses on eBay
You know how this whole painterly trend has been crazy popular this season? You know how it totally reminds you of the '80s? Well, I don't know why I haven't thought of this before, but there are tons of bold, original, paint-splash dresses available on my favorite little auction site. Check out, for example, this perfect, abstract twirly dress. This Bill Blass piece would be the best for a party and, even though I sense there's something shady going on, I'm still drawn to this super-playful, well-cut Diane von Furstenberg style.

What's your beauty packaging pet peeve?
Last night, a friend was saying we should do a story about beauty-product package design, since she feels it's gone downhill recently. One trend that bugs her: pressed-powder compacts where the sponge sits in a lower compartment (versus the old-school situation where it sits right on top of the powder). Another friend is annoyed by lip gloss tubes where you turn the base to dispense the product: "It clicks a bunch of times and nothing comes out, and then suddenly it's a volcano!" Read More »

Daily Find: Weleda Birch Body Scrub
Swimsuit season is approaching, and if your skin is looking as dry and ashy as ours, we suggest you take action before Memorial day rolls around. Organic skincare giant Weleda recently introduced their new Birch Body Scrub, just in time to save our hides. The formula uses pure plant oils and extracts to exfoliate and, more importantly, diminish the appearance of cellulite, so your bod looks toned and polished when you slip on that string bikini - or modest tank suit.

What you might not know about alcohol and skincare
The whole Pabst beer soap moment was cute and all, but it got me pondering alcohol and its rather pervasive role in skincare products. Loads of cleansers and toners list alcohol as an ingredient, but I know so many women that avoid this ingredient like the plague--oh, um the same women I know are known to ingest multiple martinis in one setting, but anyway...
I've heard some derms and facialists argue about its place in skincare and whether it can be beneficial (perhaps in the case where acne and extreme drying is necessary; this is usually where the docs stand), or to be avoided at all costs (a lot of facialists despise alcohol).
