5 Ones to Watch on Make Me a Supermodel

We love Bravo's Make Me a Supermodel for all the sick reasons you do, but mostly because unlike America’s Next Top Model, these mannequins look like they could actually score a real modeling gig. Why, the fact that they measure the contestants in their underwear is alarmingly(!) realistic in itself. That’s why we were a tad disappointed with last night’s season premiere, which was more like an episode of Zoolander: The Show. Clearly, it had to be intentional that the mediocre-looking chicks they cast meant the real action was in the XY chromosomes. Maybe it’s male supermodel-in-real-life Tyson’s influence, or perhaps it’s just plain zeitgeisty. After all, we’re having a metrosexual renaissance moment of sorts, what with all the talk of man-Spanx and The New York Times waxing philosophic about how men’s butts look in pants. Still, male models are so, I don't know, laughable at best, and "meh" at worst.

Look like a model: Learn how to re-create the hottest beauty looks from the pages of Allure.

It's not like we'll stop watching, though: The schadenfreude inherent in seeing the skinny/young/beautiful people being humiliated at every turn is just too tempting. Here's who Allure's model booker extraordinaire, Ro Penuliar, has her eyes on:

  • The guys
  • Colin, the 21-year old med student. He epitomizes geek chic and "has a great, chiseled face"
  • The baby of the group, 18-year-old Branden. "I hate male models that look girly," Ro says. "He’s more of a man-—and he does something sexy with his eyes that I like."
  • The Brit, Jonathan. "Again, he's more of a man than a boy. And I think he could be really versatile." (That's model-booker-talk for: He could be in magazines, and ads, and on the runway.)
  • The girls
  • The Amish girl, Salome, (pronounced sal-ah-may; v. model-y!). "She's the most interesting of the mediocre bunch. The other girls are just really ordinary."
  • The hippie-chick, Kerryn. "I think she’s ugly-pretty—but I like that. A lot of the big models right now are not typically gorgeous."
