5 Ways to Streamline Your Summer Beauty Routine

By Bobbi Brown, Beauty Expert

1. Lighten up your base. For day, I love using a tinted moisturizer with SPF. It looks lighter and sportier than traditional foundation, and it hydrates your skin. Most impressively it's a great time-saver as it combines your face makeup, skincare and sun protection into one. I never like spending tons of time fussing with my face, but never more so than during the summer, when I can't wait to get up and out.

2. Tan the smart and healthy way. Instead of sunbathing, get your sunny glow with bronzing powder. Using a large brush, lightly dust the powder over your cheeks, forehead, nose, chin, and neck. Here's my personal tip: To make sure skin looks glowing (not matte and powdered), rub a bit of moisturizer into your hands and lightly pat your cheeks. You'll see the difference.

3. Think long-wearing. Skip the need for a midday touch up by choosing makeup formulas that resist both heat and humidity. I swear by my Pot Rouge, a cream formula that doubles as both a sheer cheek and lip color, waterproof mascara, and my Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner, a water-resistant eyeliner that doesn't smear or run (honestly).

4. Lighten up your fragrance. Rich, heady fragrances seem kind of brash in the summer. Heat intensifies the smell, and everybody within a 10-foot radius suffers. Avoid this by switching to a sheerer scent this season. My personal favorite is Beach, a fragrance I created a few years ago. Whenever I smell it, I'm reminded of the sunscreens I wore as a kid. Whichever light fragrance you choose, apply it strategically (not in a giant cloud): Mist the insides of your wrists and elbows, under the earlobes, and behind the knees. Because these areas are warm pulse points, they have a way of beautifully diffusing the scent for the rest of the day.

5. Sneak your vitamins into your dessert. Try to ignore the siren song of the ice cream truck and indulge in these exotic green tea ice pops they're my favorite summer treat: Simply brew green tea with mint, sweeten it with agave nectar, pour the tea into popsicle holders, and serve when frozen. Not only will this dessert make you really popular with your guests, it also packs in a ton of vitamins and antioxidants. And if you're craving a snack while the popsicles are busy freezing, grab some fruit. There are so many delicious varieties in season right now. I could quite happily live off of plums all summer long.
