A Natural Deodorant Alternative—And It Works!
partner
Fall in the Northeast is
quite possibly our favorite time of year. There’s something about
those crisp sunny days, when the air is just cool enough for a
first foray into jacket territory, that puts us in a good mood. But
the conditions aren’t totally optimal: The in-between warm and cool
temperature means sweating is at a high (you’re cold without that
blazer, but a little too warm with it), so even though the season
presents that small window of opportunity when silk shirt-wearing
is in its prime, it also makes actually pulling off the look—sans
dreaded sweat stains—nearly impossible. We, too, suffer from this
common affliction and have recently been on a search for a natural
deodorant that will keep us relatively dry and fresh-smelling,
without all of the aluminum, propylene glycol, and parabens that
most brands use (let it be known: body odor is gross, but knowingly
letting chemicals seep into the lymph nodes under your arm area is
way worse). There is not a lack of these green-leaning odor
fighters on the market. But so few of them actually do the job.
After spending nearly $50 on ill-fated products from some of the
most well-known natural brands out there, the answer came to us via
a fancy hippie friend who is equal parts practicing midwife and
Opening Ceremony acolyte:
Lavanila’s
The Healthy Deodorant. Free of the aforementioned trio of evil
ingredients, the multitasking formula uses a beta-glucan technology
(which includes skin-saving polysaccharides, mostly) combined with
antioxidants and essential oils to not only fight odor but soothe
and nourish the skin as well. It comes in four vanilla-based scents
and is the only thing we’ve tried so far that works, putting that
vintage YSL Rive Gauche floral silk tie-neck blouse we typically
reserve for October back into rotation.
