Am I too old for this?

(CNN) -- They don't call it "Twi Crack" for nothing.

Lisa Hansen, for example, thought she had lost her mind the first time she read "Twilight." Partly because she's 36.

"I was absolutely worried that something was wrong with me," the Utah mother of two said. "I just couldn't put it down -- I was obsessed completely."

She picked up the first of Stephenie Meyer's vampire novels -- recommended by a teen neighbor -- with few expectations. After devouring it, she couldn't get the images of doomed love between a vegetarian vampire, Edward, and an awkward teenage girl, Bella, off her mind. Hansen thought about the books so much she seriously wondered if she was experiencing some sort of midlife crisis.

"I thought I was the only woman in the world who was my age and was just obsessed with books," she said.

I along with hundreds of teenagers and other moms will be going to see the midnight showing of New Moon tonight. I am not a teenager, I am a mother of 3.

My son was the first person who told me about the twilight books. They were all the rage with the girls at school. Then I started hearing about the movie. I thought about when I was a teen, and  the movies I loved then. I knew it was a popular movie, but I never had the desire to see it. But then the girls I work with started talking about it. These married women some with kiddos, and my 60 something Vietnam veteran boss talked about how he loved the books. How they were well written, and he could not put them down. After that I was intrigued. If this man was interested in them maybe they were worth reading.
I have a rule for my kiddos, they can not see the movie until they have read the book first. So I followed this rule too. I bought the Twilight book and 2 days later I was searching for the New Moon book. In the span of 2 weeks I read all four books in this series. I would stay up reading until 2 or 3 am. I would get lost in the story.
So...........Tonight I am going to see New Moon along with a lot of screaming teenage girls. I am hoping it will make me feel young again instead of like a weird old woman.

Meh, even one of the morning D.J's on my fave radio station is obsessed with the series.

Personally, I am the type of person that likes to jump on the bandwagon either before (Like I fortunately did for Firefly) or after all the excitement... So I am going to wait until it has died down before I even consider reading the books or watching the movies (may wait until they come on TV like I did with Harry Potter). But if you like the series you like them.

I'm about to have my 39th birthday....and I also ate the books. All four read within the span of a week! I hear that the author is writing another series from Edwards' perspective. I sure hope this is true.

    Hi 29,

I'm so glad to see you. I didn't know you had this blog over here. I'm glad to see you. :)

Are you too old for this? No way! Literature for Children and Adolescents was one of my all time favorite classes in college. It was fun, of course, but we also discussed all the things that went into making a children's or adolescent's book good. We read some really great books in that class.

We read the first Harry Potter book (at that time, I think she was only on the second or third). We also read "The Giver", which has become a standard on a lot of middle school reading lists, and "Walk Two Moons", which became one of my all time favorite books.

Initially, I was pretty anti-Twilight because I was such a big Buffy fan. However, I went to a publishing seminar sponsered by my under graduate advisor, and the literary agent hosting the seminar kept raving about how everyone is looking for the next Stephanie Meyer or the next "Twilight". I decided, at that point, it was worth a read.

I understand why people like it. I also understand what makes readers so excited by it. I think the tension is pretty good. Although, at times, I find it a little repetative. I put the first book down about half way through, but I just picked it up again the other day and read four more chapters.

I liked the first movie a lot. ;)

Anyway, the tension, the jumpiness, the unsureness of it all is what makes it so exciting and fun to read. Not only to imagine ourselves 16 or 17 and in love for the first time again, but also to imagine that there's a gorgeous boy at our school who only wants us. And oh yeah, he just happens to be an undead super hero too. It's a new twist on a fairy tale. And who among us wouldn't like to believe that the extraordinary really exists and will one day choose us?

    Enjoy the books. :)
