Look for: Hempseed Oil

Containing all 10 amino acids, a ridiculously high concentration of Omega 3, 6 and 9 essential fatty acids, protein and a veritable alphabet of vitamins and minerals, Hempseed Oil might just be the beauty industry’s new magic bullet. It also might be the earth’s: The fast-growing, THC-free grass can grow with little water and without pesticides or insecticides and can be used to make clothes, paper and beauty products, among other things. Find it in products like Hemp Organics Lipstick, $14.99 which come in a variety of MAC-impersonating shades and are, naturally, lead-free.

I'm not very good with reading labels. I've never been one of those gals who can rattle off the calorie count of my favorite snack or even remember what the active ingredients are in my moisturizer. But after reading this article, I'm definitely going to take a second look at the labels of all my products.

There are some pretty sketchy ingredients in beauty products, things that are known to cause cancer, disrupt your hormones, all kinds of crazy stuff. See which ingredients you shouldn't touch with a ten-foot pole, and which are actually, you know, good for you. Click on the images above to see which ingredients are good and bad.

I did a keyword search for "toxic cosmetics ingredients" and got more hits than I thought I would. Check it out.

You click on the picture, and throughout the slideshow there is information under the pictures about the ingredients. Damn... Try looking around before you flip out- most of the time it's your own incompetence that hinders you.

Good article, though. Good stuff to know.

It is much more then just make-up. Go check-out the book "Exposed: The Toxic Chemistry of Everyday Products and What's at Stake for American Power" by Mike Shapiro. There is a lot of political history/decision making, but he lists all types of products other parts of the world wont accept including make-up.

I have written several posts here on Shine about chemicals in skin care and in everyday household cleaning products. Below are a few of my articles and they actually list what chemicals to watch out for and lists a link where you can keyin your own brand of makeup and see if there are toxic chemicals in it. I think my articles are much more informative, lol Hope you will check them out.
