Controlled Smoky Eye

For a New York Public Library benefit, makeup artist Robert Moulton gave Leighton Meester a suitably refined take on dark smudgy eyes. "I wanted the look to have a hint of glitter and shimmer, but to still seem very contained," he said. He started by rimming her lashlines with waterproof black liner, then blended a metallic purple shadow up to—but not above—the crease. Then, rather than sweeping shimmery black powder across the entire lid for a faded effect, he dabbed it along the lashline, and finished with tons of black mascara. "This look accentuates the beautiful shape of Leighton's eyes," he said.
