Being Engaged Can Make You Crazy: Wedding Dresses
partner
Confession #3: I am that annoying girl who just got engaged and cannot stop talking about her wedding.
To my credit, I only got engaged a week ago and from what I've seen, I could be a lot worse. Rich Bride, Poor Bride, Platinum Weddings, Whose Wedding is it Anyway?, Bulging Brides
- you name it, I'm tivo'ing it. I've seen mean brides, cranky brides,
sad brides, whiny brides, even one bride who spent the night before her
wedding calling three of her five bridesmaids to tell them they weren't
pulling their weight and she no longer needed them in her bridal party.
So I know the kind of bride I don't plan on being, but that's not
stopping me from turning into a monster of another color.
Confession #4: I haven't chosen a location or a date for our wedding
yet but I have a scrapbook filled with pictures of dresses I've ripped
from bridal magazines. It is all I can think about. I literally dream
about wedding dresses. Do I want a modern dress? A traditional dress? A
romantic dress? A long dress? A short dress? An embellished dress? A
simple dress? A fashion-forward dress? And I'm pretty sure that if I
show my fiance one more wedding dress collage, he's going to ask for
the ring back.
Would love to hear what you all think - advice, opinions, your wedding plans/dreams - please share!

This is so true! I am getting married in 9 weeks, and I really feel like I am loosing my minds. I didn’t even buy a wedding dress. I can’t find one that I like how it fits, I didn’t picked the bridesmaid dresses … it’s terrifying.

Congrats!!! I so know what you're going through. I'm getting married August 8th next year. I too DVR all Bridezilla's, Amazing Cakes and Platinum Weddings... Sunday at my house is WE Channel day for me and my fiance knows to go watch football in the other room. It's completely normal for you to want to talk about the wedding with just about everyone. It's a huge deal (unless of course this is your 2nd or 3rd wedding, then you may want to tone it down just a bit)! Talking about the wedding constantly can get annoying to other people over time. I made a rule for myself... unless someone asks me about how the plans are going or about the wedding, I don't bring it up. If they've heard all about it once, they likely don't want to hear about it all over again unless they've asked. Sounds rude, I know... but think of how when they may get married and you having them constantly talk about their wedding... do you want to hear about it constantly? No. If it's your maid of honor, bridesmaid, mom or soon to be mother in-law... yak away. Try to give your man some "wedding free" time though at least 3 times a week.
In regards to the dresses... You can pull all the pictures you want out of magazines, search the entire internet for the "perfect" dress... but don't settle on anything until you actually try it on in a bridal salon. Get ideas of the styles you like and it's always good to go into the salon with pictures of styles you like. Learn to know what fabrics you like and don't like. There is a lot to wedding dresses these days. And the designer dresses are nice, but unless you plan to drop $5K to $10K on a dress alone (not including alterations and undergarments), consider other name brands as well. A great bridal consultant can pick out a gown with style ideas that you give her knowing it will look fab on you before you even try it on. Mine did and I couldn't be happier with my decision. It was a toss up between one I had been dreaming about for a full year (never got to try it on though, but found it in person) and the one I chose. Both chiffon, but one is a v-neck tank dress with very little beading and the one I chose is a strapless with beading and embroderiy at the top and on the train. Loved both of them and took a week to decide which one it would be. Never ask the fiance... they haven't got a clue. They know what they like, but you'll just drive them crazy asking. I drove mine nutty for a few days. Leave the guy out of the dress decision making and surprise him the day of as you walk down the aisle towards him. Trust me, it'll take his breath away.
Oh, I'm also a wedding coordinator, so I've seen actual "bridezillas" before. Just don't expect perfection on your wedding day. Hope for the best and enjoy yourself and you'll have a wonderful time.
Good luck!
