Jeans is my absolute favorite piece of clothing (my many pairs that hang in my closet definitely gives it away!). They are comfortable and so easy to dress up that you can get so many outfits from one pair! So you know I was ultra excited when I got the chance to interview Ben Taverniti. He is the head designer and creative director for Hudson Jeans. He made the switch from designing couture collections in France back in 2000 to designing denim here in the states since 2004. In our interview we talked about the latest denim trends, how to fashionably jazz up denim, and how to find that perfect pair of jeans!
MJ:
I loved looking through your
Fall 2009 styles on the Hudson Jeans website. I am a big fan of
dark wash jeans. Is that one of the hot trends for the Fall?
What are some other hot jean trends for the season?
BT:
Dark denim is the most universally flattering jean, and it
will always be on trend. This Fall is also about distressed denim
and skinny jeans. Other silhouettes I am loving this season include
flare, high-waisted skinny, ankle, zipper and vintage distressed
patchwork.
BT: The skinny
has been a celebrity favorite for quite some time now. We
have added unique features to ours such as distressed with
patchwork or has a lace-up back. We have several in stores
this fall that we designed specifically for Georgia May Jagger, our
new face to the brand, and she is loving them and already rocking
them out and about.
MJ: Finding the perfect
pair of jeans can prove to be a quite a challenge. What tips
can you give on finding the right fit when it comes to jeans?
BT: Look for
denim that enhances your style and your shape. Try on a range of
sizes to make sure you find that perfect fit and don’t settle
for less. Each jean has a different inseam, bootcut and flare
should have a longer inseam, while skinny, ankle and jeggings
should have a shorter inseam. The perfect jean is the pair that you
just can’t live without.
MJ: I love
denim jackets and vests. I think its something that can be a
great compliment to an outfit. What advice can you give when it
comes to using a denim jacket or vest? How can we best pair
it with the right type of jeans? What kind of tops should one
consider wearing with a denim jacket or vest that looks
fashionable?
BT: Denim vests
and jackets can take a look in a totally different
direction. Dress them up with a chic pair of
Louboutin pumps or your favorite Balenciaga. A crisp white collared
shirt or Stella McCartney flowing sheer blouse. Dress them down
with a classic white tee, canvas bag and a pair of ballet
flats.
MJ: Adding
trims and other details to jeans can definitely take denim to the
next level. What are you’re favorite denim add ons you like
to use in your designs?
BT: Studs,
patchwork and detailing can help take solid denim to the next
level.
MJ: I love
to wear denim when I’m out on the town. I love being
comfortable yet stylish at the same time. What advice can you give
when it comes to selecting the right type of denim and how to dress
it up when a girl wants to go out and have fun?
BT: Jeggings. a
combination a jean and a legging, are stylish, provide the perfect
fit everything and are super chic. Dress them up with a super high
heel or a detailed belt.
MJ: What makes designing jeans
different from other types of clothing you’ve designed? Where
do you find your inspiration?
BT: I take
inspiration from my personal experiences; traveling, books I read,
rock and roll, photographs...Designing is about taking
inspiration where you find it and shaping it into your unique
vision.
MJ: Where can my
readers and I go to get the latest styles of Hudson Jeans?

MJ:
If you can give one piece of advice when it comes to wearing denim,
what would it be?
BT: Don’t be
afraid to take risks with fashion and try something new!
Style is woven in.
I want to give a HUGE thank you to Ben Taverniti for taking the time out to help us girls make sure our denim is on point!
