Can I get my spa on AND be eco-friendly?!
user
Product Fiend posted an article about
"The saga of the plastic exfoliating beads..."; which refers to an article published in Slate magazine that informs of the dangers of plastic exfoliators used in some popular products such as Olay Body Wash Plus Spa Exfoliating Ribbons. I think the article is great, and I'm all for cleaning up the environment and using products that promote green and healthy living. The problem I found with the post, as well as the article that inspired it, was that it doesn't mention products to replace the ones we need to stop using. Sure, a couple of face scrubs were mentioned, but no full body washes. I was using one from Bath and Body Works that contained coffee grounds, but it's been discontinued, and none of the sugar and salt scrubs I have are recommended for daily use. So before I go to Walmart and spend an hour reading
every one of the ingredients in
all of the exfoliating body washes to make sure they do not contain any type of polyethylene, are there readers who already know of some that don't? Thanks for your help!

Thank you for blogging about this. I didn't even realize that the beads were an issue. I use the regular body wash from Wal*Mart, sometimes it has beads and sometimes it doesn't. I'm not sure if they are the plastic ones or not. I'll go take a look.
Ok back. I didn't see polyethylene in either of my body wash but I did find a reference to an acrylate crosspolymer, which sounds rather plasticy. Hmmm. I hope they do more studies about this.

Oh, yes, and that's another thing, the plastic is disguised under so many different names, how do we know what it is?
