Can You Literally Sue Someone for Wearing Too Much Perfume?

You know that coworker. The one who bathes in perfume? Leaves behind a wall of scent you slam into on your way to the coffee machine? Well here's some retribution to anonymously post on her cube wall...

A Detroit city worker says her coworker's too-strong perfume makes it too difficult for her to breathe and do her job. So she's suing!

Hey, I support smelling nice. So much that I'm always consumer-testing new deodorants to see which ones really work (and don't). And while it can be easy to sort through all the new perfumes to find the right one for me (this quiz helped), I still have to remember, there's a fine line between smelling good... and just smelling.

So is there somebody at your office who's guilty? (Or is it you?) Should perfume be banned at work?

OK, I once had a teacher ban me from class for wearing that Victoria's Secret pear lotion, and ever since then I've been very sensitive toward the stinky person. So no. Suing is taking this issue too far. I'm thinking that worker must have had some other personal issue with the perfume lady.

I have two very very good friends who are terribly allergic to MANY different scents. I don't think it's fair for people at work to be forced to smell your "White Diamonds" all day. That S@#$% stinks! When people are out inpublic itmay be a different story. But it's not cool to do it at work. There should be a law to keep people from wearing it to work, but not in public. If they keep wearing it to work, then you can sue them! But one must be careful because lotions can be strong too! I personally don't wear perfume, I wear thelotion that smells good. I think my child is allergic to baby oil. Sorry irrelevant.

I agree that perfume should be banned in the work place. My lungs are very sensitive to perfumes. (some perfumes are more irritating to lungs than others). If I smell perfume, even if someone walks by my office, my breathing instantly becomes impaired. I work in a hospital and some of the staff dealing with patients (many with respiratory problems} wear very strong perfumes. I remember passing a patient's room one day. He had put a sign on his door "If you are wearing perfume, do not enter or I will die"

People vary in the acuity of their sense of smell and reaction to perfumes.

I love perfume but I don't wear it in the day if I'm going to be in a confined space with someone (like an office, car, etc). Mostly I wear my perfume at home and I put it on at night before I go to bed so I can enjoy it that way.

I never remember to put on fragrance. I think it came from years of being tortured by my sister bathing in a strong musky, spicey scent every day...and me running from the house to save myself from the headache that was sure to follow.

Well me persoanlly, I love to smell good.I only use light fragrances, such as rapture (Victoria Secret), Weekend (Burberry), Bijan, Fleur D'something (Givenchy),bath and body works -mango/mandarin orange lotion.Sometime's people can over do it. But suing over wearing perfume, that's a waste of time and money to pursue it.

i work with a couple of women who bath in perfume. i have tried to tell them that it is so heavy it makes people sick, including myself. i can't breath, my head gets stuffy and my stomach gets sick. i have also gone to management to complain and still they continue to wear their perfume as heavy as they want. i think the more i complain they more they wear. who really is the insesative one here them or me? i guess i will have to get a doctors note stateing the problem and i will just have to go home and my employer will still have to pay me!!!!!!!!!
