Can you survive a full day (or night) in high heels?

I somehow made it through a whole wedding and reception in these heels

A few years ago I twisted my ankle so badly that I tore something and made it swell up like a golf ball. Since then, I'd been reluctant about wearing high heels, especially strappy sandals, because I'm a little clumsy and every time I tried my feet hurt by the time I made it outside my apartment. "The accident" was a good excuse for wearing flats, but what about all my pretty pumps, platforms and stilettos? Would I ever wear heels again?

Last weekend, my friend got married in Virginia, and I decided her wedding was the perfect opportunity to step back into some heels. I bought these platform stack heels at Topshop in New York for $120. I promised to wear them all summer, but since that never happened, I would now be breaking them in on the day of the wedding. A mistake? It turned out not to be! Despite the fact that my heels sunk into the moist ground during the ceremony (note the dirt on the heels), these 4" heels gave me the support I needed to make it from the aisle to the cake and several hours on the dance floor. Several women even came up to me and said, "I don't know how you can walk around in those all day!" I told them they probably wouldn't believe me, but they were surprisingly comfortable.

Looking back, I remember wearing heels out to dinner and dancing in clubs every weekend in college. Though my feet would be aching at the end of the night, and sometimes come off on my walk home, I somehow felt it necessary to be lifted a few inches upward when out on the town. Though I probably won't go back to my old high heel lifestyle, I would love to take them out once in a while. And just in case, I'm going to stash a pair of these nifty Footzyrolls in my handbag. Available in black, white, silver, or gold for $25, you can whip these out and keep on moving.

How many of you wear heels to work or out all night and live to tell the tale? Do you have any tricks or beauty items that make walking in heels any easier?

I wish I could wear heals! Being flat footed is so hard to find the right shoes for any occasion! Errr!!!

Ha Ha up to a couple of years ago when I still used to work full time in an audit firm, I used to wear high heels from 7am to 8pm for sure if not even more. I admit but, that sometimes I just had to wear more sensible shoes, just to rest my poor feet and back. Now I am more into flaties altough I still love high heels, but they are more practical to keep up with an energetic toddler!!

I love wearing heels to work. I sit most of the time, but still the older ladies are like, Ugh how can you wear those, y'know they will cause major problems when you get older. Its not that bad! I pick supportive shoes that are still high heels.

It completely depends on the shoe, but I think platforms are always more comfortable than regualr heels. You have more of a shock absorber at the base of your foot, where you need it most.

I wear heels probably 5 days a week all day! I have a few pair of special occasion heels that hurt after a few hours but my day to day heels which are usually between 2-4 inches feel greet even when I get off at 6pm.I think it's a combination of your weight and the way that you walk in heels that may cause discomfort because I've had payless shoes that felt great even after 12hours!

I love wearing heels but yes, after a whole night of walking or dancing they do get tiring. I always have sandals or flats in my purse or in the trunk of my car.

The only time I'm not in heels is usually while sleeping and weekends before 9pm :)

I love being in heels, since I'm 5' 4". (I'm the person who goes grocery shopping in 4 1/2 inch heels.) If you wear them enough then you learn how to buy them--the pairs that you can wear all day and night--without having aching feet after a few hours.
