Canadian Designer Stirs Plus-Size Model Controversy at London Fashion Week
partner
Dangerously thin models have
been a controversial topic in the past, but at a recent London
fashion show, it was a trio of plus-sized models who caused a
commotion.
The Daily Mail reports that when Canadian
designer Mark Fast announced to his staff that three women who wore
sizes 10 and 12 (UK sizes 12 and 14) would be in his show,
two members of his team apparently quit in disgust.
The 5 Most Outrageous Things Seen at New York Fashion
Week.
The show was saved by two last-minute volunteers who worked late to
get the collection together. "We are glad we stuck to our
vision," Amanda May, Fast's creative director, said.
"We wanted women to know they didn't have to be a size
zero to wear a Mark Fast dress—curvier women can look even better
in them."

Since when is a 10 plus sized??? The woman in the dress looks beautiful, it's very flattering for her shape, and she is much more representative of women that a lot of models. I'm glad he stuck to his vision too and shame on the people who quit because not all the models were size 0.

What disgusts me is that people actually quit working for him over this. What the hell is wrong with those people and since when is a size 10 plus sized anyways?

wow, what jerks. The people who quit probably would have had no problem "dressing" partially nude stick figures in sheer blouses, though. But no, heaven forbid a size 12 woman partakes in the show. They obviously subscribe to the Cintra Wilson point-of-view.

The model looks great.... except for that hair. A size 10 or 12 is far from being obese. That would be a size 24. Good for this designer!
As for the related question, " Would you ban obese hospital workers?" That may be the most idiotic question I've seen on this forum... and there have been some real gems. As long as a person can do his/ her job well and is responsible, who the hell cares?

Um, sizes 10 and 12 are NOT plus sizes! I used to work in dressmaking and know this firsthand.

Good for him! 10 and 12 ISN'T plus size... but that's the biggest size designers like their "plus size" models to be. Have you ever looked at a plus sized clothing catalog?? They use regular sized models making the clothes look even MORE horrendous because they just hang off their bodies. Sad really.

Good for him, glad he stuck to his guns. The ones that quit are idiots and I hope they have trouble finding new jobs.

The model looks great! She looks like a healthy, normal sized woman who actually EATS. She has curves, the way women are supposed to - she doesn't look like the stick figures we drew when we played hangman when we were kids. I would love to see what the employees who quit look like.

It's nice to see models of different shapes and sizes (finally!). Glad the designer stuck to his guns, and hope this was more than a 1-time stunt for attention. I'd love to see more variation in models.
