Someone mentioned The Great American Apparel Diet in the comments a few weeks back, and I’ve been intrigued ever since.
Check out these 20 ways to live rich on less money!
Here’s the deal: You can sign until the end of January. (Join here.) Once you do, you’re committed to not buying new clothing until August 31, 2010—so slightly less than a year for people who don’t join on Day 1. There are loopholes that make the whole thing slightly more palatable. You can buy footwear, accessories, and underwear (phew!). Clothing that you don’t pay for—say, gifts or swap finds—is also fine.
But no new clothing, including outerwear and athletic wear.
I’ve definitely gotten better at controlling my spending, but I still need the occasional party dress or pair of jeans. I just don’t think I could do it!
Could you make it until August of next year without buying any new clothes? Anyone gonna sign up? What’s the longest you’ve gone without buying something new?
If you must shop, at least do it on the cheap:
