What
happens when a beloved womenswear designer and a hip denim brand get together?
A jam-packed party, for one thing. It was cheek by jowl at the Hôtel de Crillon
salon on Monday night, when Lanvin maestro Alber Elbaz celebrated his
collaboration with Swedish company ACNE. Parisian A-listers, models in lashes
of Lanvin pearls, and a transvestite or two jammed the dance floor as the
interestingly named London DJ team Horse Meat Disco spun a vintage eighties
set. The bow-tied man of the hour held court amid a sea of bare-chested
cater-waiters, telling guests that the 28-piece collection goes way beyond
button-fly jeans. "I wanted to do desirable denim, from raincoats to
tuxedos, corsets and shrugs," Elbaz explained. Eva Mendes and Liv Tyler,
meanwhile, professed their love for all things Lanvin. Gushing over a favorite
draped pink dress, Tyler
pronounced it "so comfortable I could sleep in it." Sounds like
someone might have also found herself a new favorite pair of jeans.
