Do you buy clothes just because a celeb made them?

We've been fans of the designer styles-for-cheap thing for years, ever since celebs and big name designers started hawking their threads at Target and H&M. Recently Vera Wang launched a line for Kohl's and boutique designer Charlotte Ronson (sister of Samantha and Mark) did a collection for JC Penny.

We personally love that labels we like are turning to more affordable mass retailers with their designs. But when we heard that Lauren Conrad was taking a break from her contemporaries line sold at upscale boutiques to debut a collection at Kohl's we wondered if she was disappointed by the apparent downgrade.

"It was just kind of a battle I had because I wanted to do a higher-end line -- I wanted to do a contemporary line -- but I was also very aware that the reason I was able to do it at such a young age was because of fans that have supported the show and have supported me," says Conrad. "So this was my way of being able to still do what I love and work with a great company and also make it accessible to the fans that made it possible in the first place."

But has this girl from "The Hills" ever even set foot in the low-end department store? "My family has always shopped at Kohl's, so I've always known about them and I think that they do a really great job," Lauren claims. "I like having more of an eclectic style where you mix high ends and more affordable pieces. It's great to be able to go to a store like Kohl's and get really good classic pieces and mix them into your wardrobe."

We definitely agree with that. But what Lauren has failed to mention is that in this rough financial economy, higher end boutiques and labels are suffering big time. Kohl's is where the money is, and as well all know, the reality stars love their hefty paychecks.

We're always tempted to check out and shop fro celeb clothing lines, but will you buy them no matter where they're sold? Are you more or less likely to shop from a low-end celebrity collection? [US]

I won't buy it just because it's a "celebrity" or "designer" collection. I love a lot of the stuff that Target features from designers, but not all of it. If Lauren's stuff is cute, affordable and durable then I will definitely take a look. I have noticed that some celebrity/designer low-end collections are made very cheaply in order to be sold in the low-end stores. SJP had her Bitten line at Steve and Barry's and some of the stuff looked and felt so cheap it wasn't even worth the $10 being charged. If I can get a no-name item from Target, Kohls or any other discount chain for the same price and better quality I am going to go that route. It's not worth it for just the "label".

I could care less who makes it. If it is comfortable and I like the style, I'll buy it.

I don't take fashion advice from Lauren.

I went to FIDM as well. She has no talent.

I don't even understand the ugly Louis Vitton bags. People who buy clothes based on labels usually look like they are trying too hard.

I avoid celebrity labels and other than something like Levi jeans, with their red tag on the pocket, won't buy anything that has a designer logo/initials/name plastered on it. Same with product logos on clothes (except for Steelers wear.) I hate dressing like an advertising billboard.

I don't buy clothes or shoes because a celebrity makes them, but I do notice something cute a celebrity wears. That's how I discovered Havaianas sandals, Jennifer Aniston was wearing them. Best flip-flops out there now that spring is here!

Elle, I like the clothes at Target too. I was just at Macy's last weekend and couldn't find anything! I said to myself, I should go to Target instead!

I have a couple of Vera Wang tops from Kohls and I love them. Her designs and colors seem to nail my personal taste to perfection.

I adore Daisy Fuentes, but her clothing line doesn't impress me. The pieces I've seen and/or tried on looked or felt cheaply made, didn't fit properly, didn't flatter, or didn't seem like they would hold up well in the laundry. Come on Daisy, you can do better!

That being said, when I shop I don't seek out certain labels. I just look for things I like and can afford.

NEVER I love couture but celebrities usually sell their stuff at walmart and besides acting does not make you a fashion expert. Seems like the opposite sometimes. Meow!

I only buy clothes that I feel look good on me and that I can afford. The label on them or who 'designed' them (I wonder how much involvement these 'celebrities' have in their clothing lines) does not influence my purchase. However, I am aware of labels and designers. The only celebrity clothing line I have ever liked is Kate Moss for Topshop. I fell in love with a dress in that line that I found at Filene's Basement; it's one of my favorite things in my closet.

Nah. Just because a celebrity 'designed' it I don't feel inclined to pay special attention to it. I tend to just stick with well known brands that have clothing that fits me. :)
