As someone who loves heels but really hates wearing them for extended periods of time, I totally feel Halle’s desire to opt for flats. But on the red carpet, maybe some strappy leather sandals or ballet flats would be a little more appropriate. To me, flip-flops just scream, “I’m going to the beach,” not “I’m going to a fancy movie premiere.”
This got me thinking about my own personal fashion rules. One trend I’ve always hated is sweat suits. I don’t care if they’re expensive Juicy velour matching sets or Adidas tracksuits—if you’re not going to the gym, getting on a long flight or sitting around at home, I don’t want to see them. Same goes for pajamas or sweatpants when running errands. Throw on some jeans—or even comfy leggings and a tunic. If you’re going outside you need to get dressed.
Also, I become outraged when I see people wearing sandals with socks. Even strappy open-toed shoes with lacy ankle socks as seen in fashion spreads. I don’t get it and I don’t like it. If it’s warm enough to wear sandals what do you need socks for?
In New York City I see a lot of women stumbling home carrying their heels in their hands and walking bare foot. Ew, really?! I don’t even want to think about all the disgusting things that have been on these city streets—going barefoot is never OK.
I’m sure I could think of several other rules I have, but I’d like to throw it out to you Shine readers. What personal fashion rules do you abide by?
