Do You Remove Your Arm Hair?
partner
Our recent post on
the pressure on women to get rid of body hair sparked
quite a
bit of debate—both with readers and around our office. One
especially prickly (sorry) area seems to be arm hair. One friend
confessed to us that during a manicure at an upscale Manhattan nail
spa, after massaging lotion on her arms, the technician smoothed
the girl’s arm hair perfectly into place, practically creating a
comb-over. The girl, who had never been self-conscious about her
naturally blonde arm hair before, spent the rest of the day
paranoid that the nail technician was hinting that she should wax
it.
5 Tips for Getting a Great Wax
Another friend told us that during a recent trip to Los
Angeles, the friend she was staying with refused to take her out on
the town until she agreed to get her arms waxed, snipping to her,
“No one in LA has arm hair, so we simply can’t go out with you
looking like that.” Whoa! What do you think—is fuzz on your arms
ever a faux pas?

I am not a big fan of arm hair, but don't feel like exerting the effort to wax it and go through the awkward growing back phase. It's not super dark or thick, so I think it's better to leave it alone. And especially if you are blonde, I don't think it's an issue. I am guilty of seeing women with very heavy arm hair and wondering if it bothers them or how they are comfortable leaving it that way because I'm not sure if I would be.

I don't remove my arm hair... I have been fortunate with only a fair amount that generally turns blonde in the summer... And I don't care if other women still "flaunt" their arm hair... if they are insecure about it they will do something about it... but why should I be insecure about someone elses physicalities?

I have been blessed with my mom's (Scandinavian) lack of body hair, I have to hold my arm up to a lamp to even see the few wispy blond hairs on my arm. But I've had a lot of friends who were Italian, or Greek, or Eastern European Jewish, who were using Nair or wax on their arms since elementary school. Now granted, I was always jealous of their thick, luxurious waves of hair when I had a thin mass of dry, uncontrollable frizz. Their problem was easier to fix than mine. I'd rather have arm hair that can be removed and nice hair on my head than no arm hair and weak, frizzy hair I can't do anything about.

I don't wax because I don't think it needs to be GONE, but I do trim my arm hair with the number 2 guide on a set of clippers so it is short buy still lays down. Cheap, and problem solved! For those who would like it to be eventually gone, waxing does get it to slowly grow back in thinner...

I have dark hair, and a lot of it. But quite frankly, I could care less. Yes, I shave my legs, but I find this obsession with not having body hair to be ridiculous.

Unofrtunately my natural hair is dark, so my arm hair is too. Normally I'll shave it but the stubble sucks, so I was thinking about trying this: http://www.healthbeautyncs.com/rd_p?p=191273&t=9532&a=17689-shine&gift=27442

I have more freckles than hair on my arms, but arm hair doesn't disturb me on anyone.

i have hair on my arms (and it's dark but thin) and yes i am insecure about it when i am around people who don't have any, but i also don't want to keep up w/ the maintentance(?) of waxing it or shaving it off like i know some people do and then having the stubble. in the end i prefer to just not do anything. now unless they miracously(?) find a way that you can just remove it once and it not coming back anymore, than I will have it removed, but until that day comes i'll just mind my own business
