Does your mascara pass the cry test?

A good mascara should do three things: lengthen, thicken, and not smudge and smear in if you cry. Well, at least if you're softies like us here at Shine.

Studio Beauty Mix at Fred Segal put three new mascara wands to the test, as actress Alexi applied them one by one and sat down to watch a tearjerker. Which brand best survives the cry test? Watch each video and see how DuWop Lash Venom, Smashbox Bionic Mascara, and Stila Lash Visor stay in place despite the tears.

Omg these videos were stupid. For one, it only looked like she actually cried in the 3rd video. Second, the way it was staged wouldn't allow for anyone to really break down and cry like would be needed to really test mascara. And last, the chick was pretty annoying. I have found that several non-waterproof mascaras that I've worn (Lash Blast by Cover Girl, Unstoppable and Great Lash by Maybelline to name a few) hold up great if I cry like she did, with open eyes and wiping the tears away gently. If I have a full on cry though, waterproof mascara is what I have to use, and then it doesn't seem to matter what brand or kind as they all seem to work the same.

I use mascara by blinc inc. It doesn't come off at all unless you rub it off after getting your lashes wet. So as long as you don't rub at your lashes after crying, the mascara will stay on. It doesn't smudge or anything. It's simply the most awesome mascara I've ever used and well worth the high cost.

I have asked this question many times on this site, why do I have to curl my eyelashes with a heated eyelash curler and the only mascara I can use that does not weigh my lashes down in 30 second's is blue cover girl waterproof mascara.I like it but I need something with more thickness I have tried all of them in the drugstore and most from department stores. My question is are there any other mascaras that wont weigh my lashes and will give me incredible thickness????

Why didn't her eyes turn "yes, I'm really crying" red? "Don't con an old con warden..."

I am 57 and still looking for a mascara that really works! I have light colored, thin lashes that are very straight. I find if I use the lash primer by Garden Botanica (the first to come out with one eons ago), I get a fuller lash. I don't have a problem with mascara giving me panda eyes until I wash my face...but no mascara I try really does much to thicken them. or give me great lenght and I have tried more then 400 in my years I bet! I now often do a heavier smoky eye with liner as well, skip the mascara and wear my glasses - most cannot tell with my glasses on if I have mascara on or not. Not wearing mascara has made my lashes more healthy. But I do look for ingredients in my mascaras that are not drying like all waterproof ones have in them. Won't try the Latise as I have beautiful green eyes and don't want them to turn brown as happens so often using that Rx product. Tried the non Rx products of the same type - no results.

Lancome and MAC. Those are the two BEST medium priced mascaras. For on the cheap: Revlon or Maybelline.

The mascaras that are waterproof suck because you rip out you lashes at the end of the day trying to remove it. NEVER get waterproof. The BEST mascare ive ever used is: RIMMEL GLAM EYES in extreme black.
