Platform Over-the-Knee Boots

Rock it like Penelope Cruz is above by pairing sexy over-the-knee platform boots with skinny jeans, a long tee and a shawl-collar black blazer. If you want to soften the look, pair them with a sleek dress and textured tights.

Stand out in a crowd with these:

Dollhouse Gikila platform boots ($79.95, DSW.com).The engraved metallic texture on these boots will give you an edge without going overboard. These boots are definitely for tall gals, they’re 20 inches long and the heel teeters over 4 inches.

Buckled boots ($49.99, charlotterusse.com). This pair features four-inch heels and combines three trends: rocker chic, buckles and over-the-knee into boots that’ll work with all your weekend options. The slouchy shaft is perfect to pair with jeans. You can still be casual and chic by pairing them with knitted tights, a nubby textured skirt and form-fitting sweater.

Stuart Weitzman Tubular square-toe platform boots ($595, shopbop.com). Can over-the-knee boots look ladylike? Yes, if the designer is Stuart Weitzman, He’s known for his elegant designs, and these five-inch platforms can be worn at work without raising an eyebrow. Just remember to keep skirts knee-length. The square toe adds room for a more comfortable fit.

Cuffed Boots

Cuffed boots, whether they’re short or tall can add a touch of whimsy to any outfit. No, you’re not going to look like Peter Pan, but they’ll give your jeans a lift when you add them to your ensemble. Not only can you tuck jeans or leggings into them, but petite cuffed ones can give the illusion of longer legs and add some charm to skirts and dresses. Do keep your bottom half fitted to show off your stylish footwear, as So You Think You Can Dance host Cat Deeley did with her short black cuffed boots at the People’s Choice award nominations.

Try these on for size:

Fioni Whitney cuff boots ($37.99, payless.com). Be totally on-trend this fall with cuffs, bows, warm faux suede and the newest heel shape — the cone. The three-inch heel is easy to walk in. Dress them up with patterned tights and a short skirt, or keep them casual with dark skinny jeans.

UGG Australia classic cardy boots ($140, uggaustralia.com). These flat heathered merino wool boots are very versatile: you can slouch the shaft, cuff the top or leave them as is. Tuck in a pair of cord jeans for extra warmth, or wear them with cable knit tights and a pleated short skirt for a change of pace for the weekend.

Rosegold Mary cuff boots ($295, Bloomingdales.com). A one-inch stacked heel makes these black leather boots great for striding through an antique fair on the weekend in tights and a knitted dress, or walking through office hallways when paired with a plaid skirt and a solid blazer. Either way, you’ll get a lot of mileage out of them.

Bright Suede Boots

Celebrities like Heidi Montag, who was recently spotted in purple suede boots, know that color can affect your mood. Use an eye-catching hue to lighten up your attitude and your style. Brightly colored boots come in flat and heels, so you don’t have to sacrifice comfort for a trend. When wearing footwear that stands out, it’s a good idea to pair it with neutral tones and grays, for maximum effect.

Color yourself happy with these:

Zip Buckle ankle boots ($17.99, gojane.com). These short faux-suede motorcycle boots are high on style and low on price. Wear them with jeans or pair them with lace tights and a long-sleeve T-shirt dress for an equally casual and chic look.

Steve Madden Tyller suede boots ($79.95. stevemadden.com). Brighten up a gloomy day in these royal blue suede flat-heeled slouch boots.  Pair them with black tights and a black dress.

Rockport Gregale boots ($101.50, zappos.com). If you’ve been looking for stylish snow boots, take a closer look at this pair from Rockport. The buckle is an on-point detail. Purple is one of the trendiest colors for fall and winter, the two-and-a-quarter-inch heel gives you a bit of lift, and it’s engineered to keep your legs warm. You can stomp in a puddle and stay dry, even if you’re wearing a gray knitted dress, matching gray tights and your winter coat. Go throw them on with jeans, a chunky sweater and a puffer vest, then go outside and start a snowball fight.

Booties

You can call them booties, shooties or just plain cute. This style is a hybrid of heels and boots; they’re all over the red carpet and the street. Sisters Khloe Kardashian Odom and Kim Kardashian both wore booties at a recent party in LA.

Put your best foot forward in these:

Lovely People women's Piper booties ($143.95, endless.com).  The cut of these booties lengthens legs and adds a touch of femininity with ruffle accents.  The stiletto heel gives this bootie a delicate appearance. Keep in mind that if you do wear them with pants, no one will see the cute details. You can go monochromatic with a royal blue dress and tights, or go for contrast with a charcoal-gray or black ensemble.

BCBGeneration peep-toe bootie ($149, victoriassecret.com). Put a little oomph in your step with these tan leather-trimmed animal-print booties. The stacked stiletto heel is a little over four inches high, perfect for peeping out from under a pair of camel pants and silk blouse or calling attention to a red dress.

Zabrocki booties ($150, aldo.com). Studded boots, shoes and accessories are all the rage this season. These booties may look a bit like the more expensive Balmain original ($1450), that is if you squint and tilt your head to the side, but with a two-inch heel, they’re more comfortable. The black suede is a nice background for the silver studded trim. Go rock star and wear them with black tights and a black leather skirt. Go diva and wear them with a slinky black dress and black lace tights, or go weekend with jeans and a sweater.

I love the boots P. Cruz is wearing, but for some reason, I just can't see myself wearing them! :(
