Fashion Week dispatch: Anna Sui

    • Two models pose for me pre-show. Stylist Garren gave them mod hairstyles--shiny straight hair, some with bangs. Makeup guru Pat McGrath used lots of Cover Girl Lash Blast Mascara to make eyes pop, peachy-pink blush, and a simple balm on the lips. Psst- that's Chanel Iman on the right.
    • Anna Sui hosted a backstage beauty bar, displaying their past and current cosmentics collections.
    • These are samples from Sui's upcoming beauty collection. Lucky for me, I got a sample perfume and eyeshadow in my goodie bag! The best part of Anna Sui cosmetics is that they all smell like roses. Mmm...
    • You may recognize model Lily Donaldson from some major fashion campaigns. She's been in ads for Dior, Burberry, Max Mara, Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci, Gap and H&M
    • Jessica Stam is another bigtime model walking the runway for Anna Sui. She's posed for Dior, Cavalli, Bulgari and Dolce and Gabbana.
    • Yum! There were ample treats backstage for models, photographers and reporters to nibble on. Thank goodness! In the chaos of Fashion Week it's often tough to take a lunch break.
    • Welcome to the circus! May we borrow that skirt, please?

Anna Sui was recently honored with the CFDA Lifetime Achievement Award and has proven to be still relevant with a "Gossip Girl" inspired collection for Target. While Sui maintains her '60s rock vibe from season to season, her spring collection also had a Big Top motif, the circus scenes in "Doctor Dolittle,"  which Sui herself dubbed "very Sixties Victorian." This included ringmaster hats and jackets, a fun twist on menswear, Liberty patterns in a classic Anna Sui palette (oranges, blues and purples).

We saw several outfits on the runway that seemed straight-up "Gossip Girl" inspired. "Every girl wants to have handbags and heels and wants to look like Blair and Serena and why not?" explained Sui. "I analyzed each character and realized they are all a part of what I already do. There's the rock chick who wants to be a designer, the girly-girl, Serena, who is sophisticated and sexy, and the Williamsburg girl who's into vintage. These are all elements of my collections."

Love the mod hair-dos and the clothes are fab! Especially, that dress Iman was wearing :)
