Anna Sui was recently honored with the CFDA Lifetime Achievement
Award and has proven to be still relevant with a "Gossip
Girl" inspired collection for Target. While Sui maintains her
'60s rock vibe from season to season, her spring collection
also had a Big Top motif, the circus scenes in "Doctor
Dolittle," which Sui herself dubbed "very Sixties
Victorian." This included ringmaster hats and jackets, a fun
twist on menswear, Liberty patterns in a classic Anna Sui palette
(oranges, blues and purples).
We saw several outfits on the runway that seemed straight-up
"Gossip Girl" inspired. "Every girl wants to have
handbags and heels and wants to look like Blair and Serena and why
not?" explained Sui. "I analyzed each character and
realized they are all a part of what I already do. There's the
rock chick who wants to be a designer, the girly-girl, Serena, who
is sophisticated and sexy, and the Williamsburg girl who's into
vintage. These are all elements of my collections."
