Rachel Roy's Spring 2010
collection had the feel of 1970s Hollywood glamor, and there's
no better way to create that look than with flawless hair and
makeup. Surely you've all heard of Bobbi Brown or perhaps even
own some of her makeup products. Well, she was backstage at Rachel
Roy and talked me through the look she was creating for the show as
well as everything you need to achieve a flawless face.
For the Rachel Roy show, she gave the models matte flawless skin
that looks like they're wearing no makeup. In truth,
they're wearing A LOT! Here's what she put on, in this
order:
- eye cream
- hydrating face cream
- corrector
- concealer
- foundation
- eye powder
- face powder
- bronzer
Brown says the single most
important factor is making sure your concealer matches your skin
tone--meaning the color of your face and the rest of your body.
(How weird to people look when their face is several shades lighter
or darker than the rest of them?) The best way to ensure your
makeup matches perfectly is to paint on your face under natural
light. If you have no big windows in your bathroom, relocate to a
sunny spot.
OK, the rest of the makeup for the show included a muted strong
eye. Brown said three of the seven shows she was working on this
season all asked for the same eye shape--an
eye that extended outward
instead of upward, which gives it a '70s feel. She thinks that
will definitely be a trend. Brown used a creamy powder in the
crease of the lid, and believes that by using your fingers you get
the best control, so save your money--no one is using makeup
brushes these days! She complete the look with Guava lip color used
as a light stain, smudged eyeliner and one coat of mascara.
Eyebrows were brushed up with a clear gel to look strong and
pretty.
Bobbi think the best thing about makeup these days, is creating a
look that can go from day to night--in the same way we've
become more
practical with our outfits.
This particular look, Bobbi calls, "more sophisticated than
glamorous," but agrees on the right person it would be red
carpet perfection.
As for the hair, Fekkai created glam, '70s curls inspired by an
old photo of supermodel Christy Turlington. After forming a center
part, stylists used a curling iron to twist hair up about half-way
and set them with bobby pins and Fekkai Sheer Hold Hairspray. When
the curls were released they were sprayed with Glossing Sheer Shine
Mist for extra polish. How gorgeous!
