Georgia Jagger Controversy: Should Teens Ever Appear Topless In Ads?

Hudson Jeans

Hudson Jeans

Agency Spy
is taking issue with Hudson Jeans’s latest ad campaign, featuring 17-year-old Georgia Jagger, daughter of rock god Mick and supermodel Jerry Hall. Appearing topless (minus nipple action, however), the teenager models the jeans as she lounges in a seductive position. Agency Spy denounces the photo because young girls “are off limits when it comes to sexual references in advertising. This kind of work perpetuates the notion that children and sex somehow fit into the same category, which they clearly do not.”

Agreed with the latter, yet to say that underage females are off limits in sexualized advertising is untrue. Should be off limits, yes. Clearly, this is not a happy reflection on the way American marketing operates, but in practice, consumerism has long profited from the blatant exploitation of young women. Particularly in the fashion world, teenaged models (some as young as 12!) constitute a sizable portion of the industry, routinely appearing in “risqué” campaigns that expose their bodies, or characterize them as dark, highly sexual beings. This is not to say that the trend is morally correct, but it exists regardless.

Is it simply because Georgia is the daughter of a celebrity that this advertisement is being called out? Do you think people should shut up about this campaign? Or that nudity for underage models should start to be regulated, period? [Agency Spy] --FROM THE FRISKY

We went through this before, hence Kate Moss, Brooke shields and I'm sure others... The more people make a big deal about the ad the more popular it will become, and anyway WHO CARES? We as a society need to loosen up a bit...

Wait, society should loosen up a bit when it comes to sexualizing children? Are you kidding me? They are KIDS. It's sad that its mainly famous children who are ever noticed in this kind of thing, but honestly it makes completely sick. I picked up a magazine the other day that was geared towards young teenagers and the overly sexualized, overly adult ads and photographs inside were just wrong. I mean, a girl that couldn't have been more than 13 was posed sexually (but clothed) with a young boy. That stuff is just wrong. It makes me worry for the children I plan to have, and for my young siblings.

However - In this specific instance, I would hesitate to call a 17 year old a child. Naive, maybe. And possibly inappropriate, but not absolutely sickening.

Barbaras, you're off your rocker! Society has done TOO MUCH loosening up when it comes to sexualizing children. It's scary! When I was little, we wandered where we wanted to as long as we came back shortly after dark. Nowaways kids cannot do that because they're wearing shorts that basically let their butt-cheeks hang out and WAY too revealing tops. Just look at the clothes kids are wearing these days, no wonder there are so many perverts out there, kids parents are asking for bad things to happen by letting their children dress that way. It just sickens me and I'm only 24 with no children.

Well she's seventeen, she probably already think she's grown, I don't think there's anything wrong with it, people are too uptight.

2fast4u: so do you think short skirts create rapists? The way that kids dress do not create perverts.....sick twisted minds aren't the kid's faults....

Perverts have always existed, it's way more publicized now, and prosecuted now as well. But don't say clothes create pervs...that makes it way too easy to blame the victim.

I think it really depends on the situation. She's seventeen, okay, she's grazing the barbed wire between being a minor and an adult, it's iffy, and may give the wrong impression to girls younger a few years younger. What I find disturbing, is a twelve year old girl asking for thongs or lacy lingerie, or the eight year old dressing in a skimpy playboy costume and the bunny ears for Holloween. But then again, I found it disturbing that a three year old boy was saying to his parents he was humping a pole, and doing the motions for it too. What would I know?

sex sells and it really doesnt matter anymore. maybe 20 years ago it would have been earth shattering but now whats the difference, i might as well not have a shirt on because its not like the clothes they make/can sell now have much fabric anyway. i get how it might be a problem if they were full frontal or something but they arent so shut the hell up and leave it alone.

Ack, sorry, I pressed a button and my comment went through prematurely. Anywho, some things are used as tools to people's derranged minds. Such as guns, knives, revealing clothing on teens/young kids. There's just too much on the subject, so that's a summary.

Nudity for minors should be really regulated. Lawmakers should create a resolution to forbid youngsters in exposing themselves to public.
