Hillary Clinton: Incredible, history-making speech; odd, Creamsicle outfit

Oh, night two of the Democratic National Convention. I have so many mixed feelings about the Hillary Clinton presentation last night I don't even really know where to begin. First (and I know this is not what you come here for, but indulge me for a second), let's talk about the songs in the video. This might seem like a picky point, but isn't the Van Halen cover of the Kinks' song "You Really Got Me" a wee sexual for this kind of forum? Then there was "Are You Gonna Go My Way?" by Lenny Kravitz, which was clever, if confusing. And, last, the makers of this little film busted out, "American Girl," a song long-rumored to be about a woman committing suicide in Florida. Hmmm.
In terms of speech giving, Clinton pulled off one of those oratory performances that we'll probably remember when we're old and sitting around with our kids' kids. It was spirited and inspiring and made me proud to be a woman living in this time. Whatever your political views, you have to give it up to a lady with that much power, presence and intellectual brawn. She brought the house down. Well done, HC.

But, seriously, from a fashion perspective: What was up with the head-to-toe tangerine? It's such an odd  choice for anyone, but especially someone who presumably has a team of stylists. I don't remember ever before in my life seeing color manipulated by anyone in this way, except perhaps Elton John. I'm not even saying it was bad, just really bizarre and circus-like. A three-piece suit in all one bright Creamsicle hue? Ack.  Anyway, apparently, this tangelo wonder was specifically chosen from an array of sherbet-colored options, after it was deemed best against the blue DNC backdrop. See the (kind of hilarious) pic from ABC below.

Good speech, and I agree strange outfit.

She didn't seem as relaxed as she should have.

I would vote for Cynthia over Hillary any day, but I am happy to see at least one post here on Shine that isn't frothing at the mouth Hillary hating. I am amazed at the rabid anti-Hillary rhetoric that still hangs around long after she conceded the nomination, as if it's a cardinal sin she ever tried to run for president.

Oh look, I knew some moron would rag on her outfit--something she even joked about herself in the comment, "Sisterhood of the Traveling Pantsuits"--and you win the moron award.

As I watched the Senator Clinton's speech, and they kept flashing over to a very smug looking Ms. Obama who could barely trouble herself to applaud, I kept thinking to myself, the trouble with Ms. Obama is that she doesn't know how to play the game yet. She's not nearly as gracioius as most people would like to think she is, and it obviously really bothered her that her speech didn't pack half the punch of Senator Clinton's.

I'm sure Ms. Obama will learn to the play the game a little better with a little more experience. She'll grow much better at not showing how those with more experience and to whom she, begrudgingly, owes a dept of gratitude, like Senator Clinton,

You can make fun of Hillary's pant suits all you like. The FACT is that Hillary still wears the pants in this little power competition, and even in her final concession last night, she didn't let anyone forget it. Obama could never win without Hillary's support.

Actually, the outfit was chosen for her. It had to do with stage lighting and color. She had about four other ones to choose from but that color was able to hold the bright lights and did not make her blend in with the back ground. They wanted her to stand out not become washed.

The color is the complement to the blue background--shows strength, energy, and boldness.

Isn't it a tad superficial to ignore every point she made in her speech and focus on her outfit instead? Hillary Clinton nearly broke the glass ceiling that exists in our country, and you, along with hundreds of other female bloggers, patch it right back up by nitpicking at her outfit and music choices.

The bright orange suit made her stand out, your eyes focused right on her; if she wore a pants suit in a demure gray, blue or burgundy, she would have blended in. But she's not that kind of woman, thankfully. I'm glad she puts more thought into her speeches than into her outfits.

I agree that Hilary did make a good speech.Even thought you could see, she really wanted to be president of the United States, and had to step down to Obama. But as far as her pant suit went i think the color orange had some point of saying seasonal change, like summer to fall.
