1. Fully Charged iPod
We can’t stress this enough. There are certain stretches of road that simply do not get radio transmission, and at these places, when talking/arguing with your driving companion is no longer a viable option, those headphones can be a real savior. Download a few books on tape before you leave, like the David Sedaris box set, which we’ve found to be particularly helpful in bumper-to-bumper situations.
2. Facial Wipes/Serum
Around hour two or so, you might start feeling the sticky aftereffects of the humidity or the sun as it beats down on one side of your face through the car window (the weather forecast is promising for tomorrow). It’s at these moments that you’re going to want to do a quick cleanse-and-tone. Fresh’s In Flight Kit includes gentle face cleansing wipes and a travel-sized Face Serum with green coffee to stimulate circulation. There’s also a travel-sized mask that’s good for some pre-bedtime relaxation once you arrive at your destination.
3. Makeup/Makeup Brushes
Lastly, we recommend always carrying a few makeup essentials in your purse—concealer, mascara, powder, blush stick—for touch-ups and such on the go. And with Sonia Kashuk’s new Beauty Magnet Travel Brush Kit, which has seven full-size interchangeable magnetic brush heads and a silver carrying case to boot, you’ll have all of the tools you need for perfect application. (Hopefully, you’ve rented the Zipcar with lighted vanity mirrors so you can refresh your makeup even if the trip takes you into the dark hours of the night.)
