  At 5'9" Robert Downey Jr. isn't that short, that's only slightly below average height. He's actually a lot taller than Charlie Chaplin was, and RDJ was nominated for the Oscar for playing Chaplin. Chaplin was a teeny-tiny man and is frequently impersonated by women, haha.

  5' 6" is the average height for a woman, but men do tend to be taller (at least closer to six feet). So the guys under 5' 6" I can see them calling "vertically challenged," but taller than that, not so much.
