Holy animal prints! Rogan designs for Target

I have a lot of respect for American designer Rogan Gregory. He's been a pioneer in the socially and eco-conscious fashion movement, helmed several nice-looking, earth-friendly lines (Edun, Loomstate, his own label, Rogan) and all around puts out really great stuff. So I was excited to hear he'd take on a collection for Target (for its GO International line) and that he'd use certified organic cotton throughout. But that was until I saw the clothes.
It's not that they're bad, really. It's more that they're not good. Perhaps it's my prejudice against animal prints (which I only think one should wear sparingly and even then only if the piece is really special—like some glamorous leopard print coats).
Thing is, this collection is supposed to have a safari theme. Which is great. I guess I just don't understand why every animal you might see on the safari needs to be represented.(I'm not kidding—among the 60 pieces are giraffe, leopard, tiger and zebra patterns).
But let's not focus on the negative. This array of skirts, dresses, tops and jeans is still well-made, well-priced and good for the planet. And there are some cute things. After the jump, my picks.

I worry a little about this dress's horizontal stripes, but it's well cut and an unusually sleek design for summer.

Such a perfect little dress (good with flat sandals or wedges). Even though it has a zebra print, it's subtle and really works. Zebra Halter Dress, $39.99

Nothing fancy here, except it is hard to find a good jeans skirt—especially at this length and price.
Denim Pencil Skirt, $34.99

I really, really love this dress as that perfect kind of hanging around on a Saturday morning, or going to the beach and need something to throw on. And it's linen, which means I'll love it all the more come the sweltering days of August.

I have the zebra print halter dress and it is absolutely adorable. The line runs teeny-tiny, I noticed, so don't surprised if you need a size or three larger than usual.

I totally agree, Jenn. It sort of feels like a missed opportunity. Like, um, Target could do unremarkable sarafi stuff on their own, so why did Rogan have to do it? Sigh. At least this saves me one more harrowing trip to the Brooklyn outpost.
