How Long Do You Wait To Wear New Clothes?
partner
I have this friend, let's
call her M, for whom new clothes are sacred. So sacred in fact
she's compelled to wait several days, if not weeks, before
wearing them. I think this has to do with prolonging the shopping
high. Or maybe it's about deferring the pleasure that comes
with wearing a brand new outfit. It's pretty alien behavior to
me either way.
11 Stylish and Affordable Outfits for Fall.
I'm the person who might even walk out of the store wearing
whatever I've just bought, or will come home and immediately
put on a new garment just to waltz around the house (part of my
gripe about
having rubber soles put on a new pair of shoes is that it gets
in the way of my instant gratification). But maybe
waiting-before-wearing is a more common phenomena than I'd have
thought. I'm curious: anyone out there with my friend M, or are
you guys as impatient as I am?

I wait until the next time I go out. If it's work clothes, I wait until I actually get ready for work (hair and makeup both done).

I pretty much wear new things right away. I'm obsessive about it. 5 new shirts, I know what I'm wearing next week to work. Case in point: my new shoes I ordered arrived yesterday and they are on my feet today.

it depends, one time I bought these shirts and forgot about them and wore them a year later when I found them under a pile of laundry lol this tends to happen a lot so I just try to wash them and then wear it that week

I will wait, maybe a few days, especially if i'm waiting for a warm sunny day to wear wear a new skirt or a cool day to show off a new sweater. Sometimes i wait til i've had a manicure or freshly trimmed 'do and I'm having a good hair day.
Mostly i think its because new outfits make me feel good and when I feel good I want to look good from head to toe.

I totally understand 'M'. I don't know why i do it, but sometimes when I buy new things i want to 'save' them. For what I dont know...but i think it really is about prolonging that high you get from shopping. However, I'm not that bad...I probably wait a week as long as I have an appropriate event to wear the new things to ie work or casual wear.....if i bought something nice and fancy then i could go months without wearing the particular item - but in this case usually i bought that item for a particular event coming up and dont want to wear it before the event.

For the regular things, like tshirts or jeans, I wear them within the next two days. For nicer, more expensive clothes, like my william rast jeans or alberta ferretti blouses, I leave things in my closet for seemingly forever. I have a D&G dress bought a year and a half ago that I still haven't worn, and don't plan on wearing anytime soon. When I see something fantastically pretty, or so reduced/on sale I'd pine over the lost opportunity to buy it that I buy it anyway and wait for a good occasion. Also, it's good incentive to remain the same weight when you know you've invested money into a size.
