How to Get an Affordable Haircut at the Country’s Best Salons

The $800 haircut still exists, but at the country’s best salons, so do its $20 and $40 cousins. The next generation of top stylists need to hone their scissor skills somewhere, and training nights—common weekly practice at most salons—are where it all begins. Under the guidance of a senior stylist, apprentices and assistants go beyond the basic blow-dry with the most current cuts and color. There’s nothing to lose—except a few inches. See the list below for participating salons—call ahead for appointments.

I have gotten a cut from Neil George and color from John Frieda for their hair model classes. The cut was awesome, but I was unimpressed from the two times I got it colored. Both color results were not what I had talked to the stylist and the supervisor about and they took 3-4 hours!!

I was a hair model for an Aveda Salon intern and received my hair color, highlights and cut all for free! I was extremely impressed with the outcome of my distressed hair. I know what I had done would have cost close to $200.00 but fortunately it was free. (except for tipping the intern) The intern even asked what I was wanting done and how I would feel about the color choices that were going to be put into my

hair. After all was said and done the intern won over a new client!

I find it odd that you would only give the best haircuts for certain major cities...frugal people happen to live in other places too....
